We have not yet had a serious discussion about this yet (we just got engaged Saturday!) but we are trying to decide between one and a half and two and a half years from now (Summer months June/July/August). Summer because I will be going to law school Fall of 2012, one year after I graduate from undergrad (May of 2011) as of right now where we will be is up in the air although we should know by this summer. I’m a little worried that if we do it Summer of 2013 I will be too stressed out about school to even care, I feel like I can plan for Summer of 2012 and work but school and planning might be too much- granted I would have a full extra year to plan. We hope to make a definite decision by this summer as well because I would like a year to plan. All of this is not what I would choose for my “dream” wedding- I’d rather be married in October/November but I want to have at least a year engagement so 2011 would not work and in 2012 I will be in school.
Either is fine- I’m okay with having a two and a half year engagement but which do you think would be better?

First of all, congrats!! I just got engaged, too! Get married before you start grad school. That’s what I would do.

my fi is in his first year of law school…you will not have time to plan a wedding then. if you’re taking a year off from school, that would be the perfect time to plan and get married.

Definitely not during law school. at least not your first year. If you graduate this May, and have an entire year to plan before leaving for law school, you should not be too stressed. it will be much easier to plan during your last semester of undergrad than it would be to plan during your first year of law school.

I think it kind of depends on what kind of wedding you want to have and how much planning will go into it. If you want something big and fancy, it’s probably better to give yourself more time to save the money and spread out the planning. Either way it’ll fly by- I got engaged in April and we set the date for September 2011 and I can’t believe it’s only 8 months to go! It’s nice too to not have to rush on the planning- it can get stressful so it’s good to have some time to breathe in between the big decisions. 🙂
