We were married on a Friday night, arrived by limo at our hotel in our departure city (about an hour and a half from our venue) about 1:15 a.m. on Saturday, spent Saturday and Saturday night at our hotel, and then flew out for our honeymoon very early Sunday morning.

Although I always thought I would choose Hawaii or Bermuda for my honeymoon, we decided Hawaii was going to be too far and require too much sight-seeing after the exhaustion of the wedding, and we were married in May, and I was concerned that Bermuda would be too cold. We ultimately opted for a small, quiet, gorgeous, high-end, boutique hotel in Jamaica.

We were married on a Friday, so Darling Husband had Thursday, Friday, Monday off and then we left the next Thursday for our cruise (He worked a half day that last day). We then spent Friday exploring Seattle and our Alaskan cruise left Saturday. It was no problem for his work, and no one thought anything weird of it.  I also really liked the time to take care of errands between the wedding and the honeymoon.

@Lacelibs:  He had the day before and day of the wedding (Thursday, Friday) and the Monday after off, and then the week after the wedding he worked Tuesday, Wednesday, and a half day Thursday.  I think he liked being able to go back in between so he wasn’t so backlogged when he got back after the honeymoon, and I used the time to take care of insurance, thank you notes, paying the last few vendor bills, etc.   I would advise waiting on the name change until you get back, as your travel documents need to match the name on your I.D.  Where are you thinking of for your cruise?

I think your plan is fine for a cruise! That’s just logistics!

We are getting married Saturday evening in the middle of the state and will spend the night at a hotel there, will spend Sunday seeing family off, taking items home, etc, then drive up that evening to the major airport a few hours away, spend the evening in a hotel there, and take off for the honeymoon Monday morning. We are doing a Jamaican all-inclusive as well. SO excited.

@Lacelibs:  We were on a Princess Cruise too! They were a wonderful cruise line! It was our first cruise, so I really don’t have anything to compare them too, but I loved it.  Have a wonderful time!

A coworker of mine got married a couple of years ago and that’s exactly what she did – wedding on Sunday, Monday off work, worked Tues.-Fri. and then left for their honeymoon cruise the weekend after.  It’s not weird at all!  Our wedding is on a Saturday and we don’t leave for our honeymoon until Thurs., but we are taking the time in between off work.  We have a lot of vacation days stored up so may as well use them, plus it will give us plenty of time to decompress & pack for the honeymoon.

@Lacelibs:  Yes, I deliberately chose to spend two nights in our departure city before we flew to Jamaica on Sunday, and I’m so glad we did this.

As for our resort, we chose a small, quiet, extremely elegant, boutique hotel with only 74 ocean-front suites. The beaches are gorgeous, the food was amazing, the accommodations were luxurious, and the service was top-notch. When my Darling Husband and I were there, it was not marketed under the Sandals’ brand, so I don’t know if the level of service is still the same. However, the website seems to suggest that it is.

@Lacelibs:  We are going to Sandals Royal Caribbean in Montego Bay. There was a lot of debate back and forth, but we eventually picked Sandals because when you get the butler-level room, the service is supposed to be far above any other AI. Also, they had swim-up rooms (which seemed neat, even if we likely won’t use it that much) and there is NO TIPPING at Sandals, which appeals to my ability to relax.
