Just wondering when everyone picked out/bought their bridesmaids dresses for their bridal party, or if you haven’t yet, when you’re planning on it.
And should I have all of my bridemaids come with me to pick them out? I don’t really care if they all have the same dress or not, I just want it to be in the same color/fabric. I’m just a little confused to how this works.. (they’ll be paying for their dresses).

@Blondee: I had just my Maid/Matron of Honor go with me… I have 7 girls all together and I thought it would be just WAY too chaotic with all those opinions. She and I picked 8 different dresses that the girls could choose from when they went dress shopping. All the same color/fabric/length but the tops were different. So far, they have all chosen something different.
I picked the dresses out months ago, but they have until the end of the month (possibly November) to get them ordered. My girls will also be paying for their dresses so I wanted them to order in a timeframe that they could save enough money and before Christmas.
They got Alfred Angelo dresses and the most expensive one is $158. Not too bad!

I voted 6-12 months, but was definitely closer to 6 months. 3 of my 4 BMs are Out of Town, so when my one Bridesmaid or Best Man was in town we just went to David’s to get an idea. Then I went with my in-town Bridesmaid or Best Man to a few stores and she tried on maybe 15 dresses. I sent all the girls my top picks, but there was 1 dress I ultimately liked the most.
I had 2 Out of Town girls come in one weekend and my 3rd Out of Town Bridesmaid or Best Man tried the dress on the week before. So before we ordered I knew it looked good on everyone and everyone loved it. If not, I would have considered different styles for everyone.
Luckily it all worked out.
The larger the wedding party, I think its better just to take 1-2 BMs shopping and make the decision.

I had been looking at JCrew.com religiously for months trying to get the dress I wanted in the color I wanted and the price I felt was good for them. One day I happened to pop on and the dresses that I LOVED and that all my bridesmaids loved (Showed them 3 of them online, let them see what they liked better. they all picked the same one) was on sale fo $99.99 so I called all of the up and said that they HAD to get the dresses because they would probably sell out by tomorrow. I realize that it was a hurried situation and I kind of sprang it on them, but none of them minded and they were so happy they got them for $100!
So my girls got their dresses 11 months ahead of time but had I been gven the choice, I’d probably just be looking for them now, 8 months out.

I’m getting married in 7 (OMG) months and we just settled on the dresses and have yet to order. They’re wearing infinity dresses from an etsy seller though, not ordering from a bridal salon, so we dont need as much time. I’m hoping to have them ordered by December at the latest.

I have 6 girls and I’m going to make 2 trips… taking 3 girls each time so it doesn’t get too overwhelming. I’m thinking we will start looking in November/December and then they can order in January…. so 6 months before.

6 months is generally sufficient, but some places are less together than others. I say, order them as soon as you know what you want, the girls can always do their alterations later!
