@SaraLynne024: I am Sept 2nd and we registered in January bc people kept asking.
I’m getting married in Sept and we registered last July because our friends and family were asking about it for engagement gifts.
I registered as late as possible. Since we didn’t have showers, I registered when my invitations were going out. The problem with doing it too early is when things get discontinued and you will end up having either mismatched set (people bought 1/2 of the requested amount and then it got DC-ed) or you won’t get what you need because no one buys it before it’s DC-ed. I had friends who received one bowl out of four because the item got clearanced out due to registering too early.
@SaraLynne024: I did ours a month ago. It’s pretty damn fun! Once you send out info with your wedding website on it, I think it’s good to have active links to registries…
Oh, and the PPs have good points about things getting sold out or whatever. I just try to check mine every couple weeks to make sure all the links work and things aren’t sold out…
I forgot about registiring… Now another thing to do…
I say as long as you register before you wedding or bridal shower invites go out you should be ok…
we registered in late april for our september wedding. in retrospect, i could have waited a couple more months, but it gave us time to edit/delete things we changed our minds about before anyone had a chance to buy it and add things we didn’t think of initially.
i agree with the previous posters who mentioned items being discontinued and such if you register to early. i hear target is really bad about that. we registered at bed bath & beyond and macy’s and that happened with a couple of items, but it was stuff we could easily find alternatives for. just watch out for seasonal items. you shouldn’t have too much of problem since your wedding is during the summer, so all the summer-time stuff should be available if you want it.
We registered months ago–I’ve been keeping an eye on the registry, though, and removing things that are discontinued and replacing them. It’s been fun.
Also, please do not put where you’re registered on your wedding invitations.
We registered 2 weeks after getting engaged. But we only have a 5 month engagement. Haha. We wanted to be able to ask for Christmas presents from our registry so we did it before Christmas. But unless you have holidays or birthdays between now and your wedding, I would save it until about 3 weeks before your first shower.
We’re struggling for registry ideas and have seen waaaay too many horrible gifts from those without a registry, so we started one as soon as our website was up. We are asking for gift certificates and gift cards towards particular big-ticket items but will add some specific items as they occur to us. Which will hopefully be soon–horrible, horrible gifts…
We registered right before the shower invitations were sent out (which was two weeks before the regular invitations were sent out), which was two and a half months before the wedding.
I guess I didnt realize you dont put your registry info on your invitation. Ha. See? This is what first time brides learn. LOL! So just for your showers and then put it on your wedding website?
I registered last month because our website was on the save the dates and the registry was on the website.
I just figured I wanted to have the site as complete as possible before people started looking it up. The registry part seemed like a good thing to wrap up and so people could get an idea of what we were looking for (clean, classic, but not overpriced) in case they wanted to budget for it? I don’t know – made sense at the time.
We registered in January.
Put the registry info on your wedding website.
