My FH and I are planning on getting married in Sept. 2013 A small beach wedding (50+-)and would like to rent venue space & talk with people at Hilton about ideas, block of rooms, etc. How in advance is appropriate to do this? Is now too early?

12 months is pretty common – some areas are longer, some shorter depending on the demand

Definetly not too early – I would call the Hilton sales dept at the location you are looking at, and see what they say. As a bonus, since you are a year out, if you lock in a date now with a non-refundable deposit, you might be able to lock in this years pricing.

Thanks!! Okay I won’t feel awkward calling now lol :)) perfect!

My fiancé and I reserved 2.5 years in advance. Our venue had bookings for 2015 so we didn’t feel bad. Lol.

I don’t think it’s ever too early if you know what you want. 🙂

We reserved our venue 18 months in advance and at that point they had limited availability for the remainder of 2012. In other words the sooner the better!

I think we were around 10 months out? But I’ve heard average is 9 months to 1.5 years, and there are plenty that vary outside of that.

now would be the perfect time to start! I ran into issues with finding available venues so the earlier you can do it the better

It’s never too early!! We got really lucky with ours because we booked the venue over 2 years away from the date and put a deposit down. We also created a room block at the same time. Cue 2 years later and their prices on accommodations have doubled, and their food prices have gone up 35% as the venue has become more sought-after and popular. Since we booked at the cheaper rates, we locked those cheaper rates in and our venue will now cost us a fraction less than others using it around the same time we are. It’s never too early – if you’re SURE you want to have your wedding there!

We booked 14 months out. We were just sorting bits out when they called saying another couple wanted our date if we didn’t want it. Didn’t think we’d have any competition that far out!

The sooner the better! I tried to book our venue 18 months out and they were booked for the better part of 2013 already! Apparently, our venue books almost 2 years in advance for Spring/Summer weddings and we were lucky to get a date in Spring! So it’s never too early to book the venue…as long as you’re sure that’s the one!

If it is a popular wedding venue, you can start looking now and book a year out.
