I have generally read that invites should be sent out 6-8 weeks before the wedding. Does that still stand for when inviting out of town guest (not too far away)? Some people are telling me to send it now but I feel that 3.5 months is too early…. When is the best time to send them?

@miss.nicole: we are getting married on 10.21.12 and plan on sending out our invites out 8.1.12. I decided to do a 2 months because I know my guest list.

I probably sent ours out too early (3 months) but I had a timeline which was:
1 month to arrive at guests houses and for people to decide
1 month for people to RSVP and send RSVP back
1 month to chase down people who did not RSVP (which was needed!!!!)
Also, it seemed like people were going on about the invitations for 5-6 months before the wedding, so it was great to finally send them out so people would stop asking “where is my invitation???”

@miss.nicole: We’re sending ours out at about the 8-9 week point. However compared to all of the bees I feel like this is so late and I’m getting anxious!!
However the majority of our guests are local, we sent out save the dates so hopefully people have figured out if they are coming or not.
Our timeline is to send them out at the end of January, RSVP date is March 10th and the wedding is March 31st.
Our invites just got delivered on Friday and the envelopes are going to the calligrapher today, I am sooo excited to assemble them and send out!

My plan is to send them 8 weeks in advance. Most of my guests are our of town but we sent Save-The-Date Cards so they know already.

I think the invites should be sent out at least 3 months before the wedding. If you can even earlier. Gives time for them to be mailed to and back plus it allows for some extra time if guests arent sending back their rsvp card right away. In addition, im sure there will be a few invites sent back to you if the address is incorrect. We had all of our rsvps back 8 weeks with meal choice before the wedding and I wouldnt of wanted the any later because it takes alot of time planning the tables, ordering escort cards and making the table chart.
