We have our Save the Dates and they’re ready to be sent out. Wedding isn’t until October 17, 2011. Everything I’ve read says to wait 6 months before the wedding. I was thinking, it would be great to send them along with our Christmas cards (kill two birds with one stone AND save on postage). Is this tacky? Regardless of tackiness, is it too soon? We have maybe 10-15 out of town familes so it has less to do with notifying Out of Town guests and more to do with me being anxious and ready to send them out.

once you send std’s, your guest list is set in stone. have you figured out your entire budget? personally, i think december is a little early and would wait.

We do have our budget planned and we’re finalizing the guest list. You do raise a good point though – a lot can change in the upcoming months. Is 6 months “typical”?

6 -8 months is typical for Save-The-Date Cards. I would say 8 months if you are planning a VERY Destination wedding (for example – out of the country) and 6 months for one that is not that far. Honestly if you send them out with Christmas cards they are more likely to get lost with other cards and people could forget about them. In addition, SO much could change in a year! Once you send those Save-The-Date Cards you have no wiggle room on your guest list!

I would wait to send them out seperately. Some will inevitably get lost with the large amount of Christmas cards that people receive. Plus, it is a big chance that things will change and you will want to make changes to your guest list or budget. Once you send a STD there is no going back. Also, unless you have booked vendors like photography, videography, florists, etc. the budget can change and you’ll want to have the option to make changes to the final count.
