For showers-right after. I wouldn’t bunch that in with your wedding ones.

For the wedding-you can either wait or do them once the wedding is done. I wrote out thank yous as I got gifts to lessen the amount I’d have to write. My place is a frickin’ mess right now, and if I even had those 30 extra cards in the pile, I would puke lol

For early gifts, as soon as they arrive. (It reassures the senders that they got to you, plus it lightens the load later.) For showers, as soon as possible after the shower. For the wedding gifts, as soon as you can after the wedding/honeymoon. People appreciate prompt thank yous – and they notice and remember if they don’t get thanked!

Thank you notes go out immediatey after receiving a gift. Get your shower TYs done within a couple of weeks at the latest. Write thank you notes for any other gifts received before the wedding within a few days of receiving it. TYs for gifts received at the wedding should be out within 1-2 months at the latest.

Showers, right away. For early gifts, if you open them, send a thank you. If you are waiting until after the wedding to open them, at least see who the gift is from (maybe have a parent of friend open the packing slip) and then let the person know the gift arrived but you aren’t opening it yet, that way they don’t worry.

I’d do them as soon as possible. You don’t want them piling up. Don’t bundle them. I might be off etiquette-wise, but I wouldn’t mind an email or phone call thank you for a shower… but I’d expect a written one for a wedding.
