I bought (my dream!) dress pre owned online and I definitely have some alterations that must be done. Luckily it is all taking in and hemming which I have heard are the easiest fixes. The problem is that I am 15 pounds towards my weight loss goal with another 30 to go. I have 9 months until the big day, so should I wait until the 30 pounds are gone (around 3-4 months) or will that be waiting too long? I feel like 5 months for alterations would be more than enough time, but I don’t know anything about this stuff and I would rather be safe than sorry!

My wedding is in May…and I just had my second fitting. I have one more scheduled appointment and then I pick it up in April. I went for my first fitting in the middle of January. I think they say 6-8 weeks is about standard, unless you have a bunch of changes to be made.

I scheduled my first fitting two and half months prior to my date. I only need hemming, adjust the straps and bustling.

I don’t when to start alterations either! They have to take my dress in ALOT because of a recent weight loss and toning up. Like, 2 sizes worth!

There is a lot that needs to be done! I will attach a picture so you can get a better idea of what needs to be done (the pic is before any weight loss). I need the entire top taken in, cups sewn into the bust, the hem raised about 4 inches, and ribbons sewn in to hang it up (the previous owner cut them out). I’m thinking that the bottom of the dress will be fine and not have to be taken in at all and won’t lose the shape. What do you think?

Great dress! My wedding is at the End of April and I have my first dress fitting on March 11th, they said it would be plenty of time. I have to get it hemmed add a bustle and hopefuly have it taken in! You look great and dont look like you need to lose 30 lbs! But if I were you I would wait till you are a closer to your weight loss goal so it fits perfect 🙂

I’m getting married May 5th, and my first dress fitting (which is only just to get measurements and everything, since like you, I purchased my dress peowned) it is on March 24th! I’m so excited! Anyway, I think that you should be fine with waiting a few months before even making an appointment. Because some shops book fast. Luckily, my lady wasn’t full and I JUST made the appointment. =]

You don’t need to start alterations until 6 weeks out.
