The wedding isn’t for another year. When should I start my DIY projects? I don’t want to get ahead of myself and I also don’t want to begin making things that I may not end up using, thus wasting money.
What have other September ’11 brides started as far as DIY projects go?

I’m a November ’11 bride and have done, so far; favors, save-the-dates, and I’ve come up with a design for our invitations. I’d say do whatever you feel comfortable doing, but don’t do the big-investment stuff til later.

The only thing I’ve done so far is my hair flower, and that’s not even completely done haha.
I’ve done a lot of researching supplies, because I’m debating doing my own invites, but everything else can wait for now… At least until September when Fiance has more time to spend doing the ‘manly’ stuff.

I’m planning to start designing my programs this week. I’ve already made a template of the Save-The-Date Cards I want to use and plan to start mass producing this month and start putting them together in October (they’re not going out until Feb/March but it’s kinda labor intensive). We’re doing edible favors so I can’t do that but I’m thinking about starting to work on designing my centerpieces soon.

I’d say? NOW! 🙂 I am mid way through a 16 month engagement and for sooooo long I felt like I didn’t want to start things because it was so far away. And now I’m like 6 months away and feeling the crunch. I wish I would’ve just gotten things done early!
The only things I’m not doing until the end on purpose are printing our Invites (in case time or something changes) and printing our programs (in case we have a change in bridal party or music or something).

This is a good question, my date is in June and all I’ve done is design the STD’s.

I’m also wondering the same thing.
So far, I’ve decided to just buy supplies over the next few months. Especially since my primary color is burgundy. The only DIY project I have underway is my strassed shoes which I’ve invested about 8 – 10 hours so far.
