We started working on the room after the first trimester.  You should go for it! Now is the time bc let me tell you, I am at 38 weeks and very simple nursery tasks exhaust me ๐Ÿ™‚

have you considered getting a bassinet for next to your bed? Not that there is anything wrong with your plan! Just sounds like you are maybe a bit apprehensive about it.  We have a baby bjorn bassinet that baby will sleep in next to me in our bedroom for the first few months (or at least that is the plan).

Yeah I think it’s fine to get started now! ๐Ÿ™‚

My cousin and his girlfriend did things a bit early…. (announced the pregnancy on Facebook at 6.5wks, bought and assembled the crib/stroller/car seat by 8wks, finished the nursery & re-did the bathroom now @14wks) and they also documented it all on facebook, so some people in our family have giving them side-eye.

That being said, with so much to get done, and you being 18 weeks, I don’t see any reason to put it off!

As PP said, I’m also now almost 38 weeks and would NOT want to still be working on the nursery!

Never too early!! I think my nursery was done by 10 weeks and people definitely looked at me like I was crazy! One of my friends was 6 months more pregnant than me and not done lol.

I thought painting was a no no when pregnant? I’m sure you’ll take the necessary precautions. It sounds like it will turn out great!

Do it now! I’m not pregnant and not a mama, but tonnes of my friends did their nurseries whilst pregnant. Others didn’t do them until their babies were a month old since they slept in a crib in their room and just had a chest of drawers. There’s no wrong answer, but I think if you want to do it now and you have the energy etc then go for it.

It’s fine to start now. I’m 21 weeks and we haven’t started yet but are probably going to paint in the next week or two before it gets too cold to have the windows open.

You can start whenever really – our crib was purchased for us at 14w and we put it up around 17w. We started pulling everything together around week 28. No right or wrong time.

I’m 22 weeks and I am starting next week. My two daughters are switching rooms so the youngest and the new baby can share the bigger room. I want to do it while I’m still not feeling too huge. You should go ahead and do it!

The earlier you get it all done, the better. No reason to stress later on. Plus, you never know how you will be feeling in a few weeks/months, so take advantage of all this energy and initiative you are feeling now!!

My firsts room was done by 7 months preg. So by the time I had my shower, all I had to do was put things in their place…My seconds wasn’t done until after she was born… But it was just different, and she still isn’t in her room so it never mattered.

I am 19 weeks pregnant! DH and I didn’t start ‘collecting’ things for the baby/nursery until after the first trimester. The nursery doesn’t need too much work…just a fresh coat of paint and replaced rod/new shelf in the closet. We’ll be working on that in early December….thus when I am 27ish weeks pregnant.

That being said, as soon as you pass the first trimester, it isn’t ‘too early’ to start ๐Ÿ™‚

I’m 28 weeks and the “nursery” is still DH’s junk room. It’s not even close to being emptied out so that we can put baby things in there. It’s not a good feeling. It’s never too early to start! (I’m hoping it’s also not too late to start…)

You should start when you want. We didn’t start until I was about 30 weeks, and got it done in a few weeks. No big deal. But to each their own!

We did our baby’s bedroom around 10 to 12 weeks. 1.) Any work on the walls or with paint may release chemicals into the room that hang out for awhile. I want to limit chemicals. 2.) Even though we opted for an organic mattress I still believe in letting things air out. Chemicals are in everything. 3.) If you have pets it is good for the pets to get used to being around baby items, so they don’t assume the reason for changes are because of baby.

I think you should start working on it when you’re ready. It sounds like you have quite a bit of work that you want to do related to the nursery, so I think it’d be perfectly fine to start now. We started a little while before I hit the 3rd trimester. For me, I didn’t have a good trimester (was sick the whole time, but the 3rd was actually probably the best), so for me it didn’t matter as far as how I was feeling. I thought we would be putting the baby in her nursery right away. Once we got home, we ended up setting up the pack and play (which has a built in bassinet) because I couldn’t stand the idea of putting the baby in thier own room. I still can’t, and she’s a month old. I am a light sleeper though, so it’s more comfortable for me to have her near by because I can check on her more. I make sure I do not lay down when I am feeding her though so that I don’t risk falling asleep with her. My husband is the heavy sleeper, but I still worry something would happen. So, I sit in bed and feed her at night instead of getting up. It allows me to get back to sleep sooner, and I just feel better having her close by. You have to do what works for you and your family though, so it’s really never to early! Enjoy that time ๐Ÿ™‚

I think you should start whenever you want. It sounds like you have a lot of work to do so the sooner the better. I’m almost 35 weeks and we’re barely done. My second trimester was in the summer. It was nice to have my energy back so I spent more time enjoying outdoor activities. We didn’t plan on starting till the third trimester. We’ve been busy every weekend and finally have a break this weekend. We’re planning on getting some stuff done this weekend. We’ve only painted, added curtains, and built a crib with no mattress. We have a cradle so at least the baby can sleep in that for the first month.
