When To start taking Prenatals

My OB said at least 2 months before I conceive, so “wait until you’ve been taking it 2 months before you start trying” is what she said.

Was at the OB this morning to have my IUD taken out. She said typically you want to start them “a couple of months” before conceiving, but she didn’t discourage us from trying this cycle. She just told me to start taking them regularly now.

ETA: I wouldn’t panic about it too much, especially if you’re eating a balanced diet – leafy greens, citrus, etc. I think a lot of cereals/pastas are fortified with it as well. I just checked a box in our pantry.

Research also shows that taking folate before TTC could prevent miscarriages as well. I would have taken them earlier (2 months), but only came across reseach about 1 month and a week before TTC in June; I fell pregnant in July (so by then already have 2 months’ supply of folate in my system).
