Omg, there is even etiquette on what to do with your shower gifts AFTER you get them and they are put behind closed doors? Wow!
I just created my registry on MyRegistry.com, which was my first big step in the wedding planning process for next fall. We are going to have an engagement party and wanted to have a registry set up for that as well. So, is it going against proper wedding etiquette if we don’t wait to use the gifts that we receive for our engagement party too? I have a feeling my fiancee is soooo NOT going to be okay with that one (I mean, we aren’t getting married till next fall!).
I’m slowly learning all of these subtle etiquette rules that I never even knew existed!

I used mine right away. I dont think you need to wait until after the wedding.

I unpacked mine and started using them as soon as I got home. I also made time to send thank you’s out within 1.5 weeks of my shower. I figure if I have time to unpack and use my goodies then I have time to say thank you to those who bought them for us!

We used ours right away, that being said we also wrote out the thank you’s immediatly after the showers. If you aren’t planning on writing the thank you’s, don’t use the gift.

@JessicaL:I’m with you and refuse to uphold a tradition that is based in the fact that the wedding MIGHT get called off. No way Jose! Neither hell not high water…something like that. =)
Now I kind of want a Panini press…but I’ll still with my George Foreman 360…
