(Closed) When to take engagement photos? Is it too early?

There to remember your engagement, there not “pre wedding photos” do them now!

In my opinion I think it’s best to do engagement photos when you are FRESHLY ENGAGED. If you wait it’s more like pre-wedding photos. So I say DO IT NOW!

Definitely not too early! My wedding is on May 31, 2014 and I just had engagement pictures taken two days ago!

My view is that they are engagement photos, so the closer to your engagement the better.

No need to have them close to your wedding date, that’s what wedding photos are for.

I got married in August 2012 and took engagement photos in June 2011, so more than a year before my wedding.

I don’t think it matters one way or the other. The only reason I’d say it might be early is that it’s still freezing outside, which is why we’re waiting to take pictures, because I hate the cold. 😉

Other than that, engagement pictures are meant to showcase your relationship and the two of you as an engaged-to-be-married couple. It doesn’t really matter if you take them now or closer to your date, because you’re engaged now and you’ll still be engaged later.

Keep in mind, if you’re goin to snd out Save The Date Cards out using your Engagement photos  when will you send them out, do you think your look or your partner’s look will change alot before the wedding.

I used my engagement pics for my save-the-date’s so we took them 11 months before the wedding, in order to get the save-the-dates printed and sent by 9 months before… I think a year ahead is fine as long as you make sure you think them through. We are having a 2 year engagement, so by the time I took my pics, my wedding was mostly planned, and they were able to fit my theme. If you haven’t nailed down a theme that you’re sure of yet, I would wait or just take some general pics that could fit with many themes. Congrats on your engagement and enjoy the wedding planning!

@msbriezyb: Our wedding is June 2014 and are getting some done this month because we won a free engagement session. A session is also included in our wedding package so we will be doing those with our photographer in June. There’s nothing wrong with doing 2 and you get more options for save the date cards!

I don’t think it’s too early, I think it’s better to have them done earlier when you first announce it anyways.  We were married August 2012 and had our engagement pictures done in June 2011.  That’s because we were having an engagement party in July and the parents wanted the pictures then.  We used them for the STD’s too.
