Ooh, I am also curious about this!  Please vote, ladies!

I didn’t vote, because ours is kind of in the middle. We got engaged the beginning of May, and we’ll be having our engagement pictures at the beginning of next month. I don’t think it really makes a difference, as long as it’s when you want it. If you get engaged in the winter, and really want a spring photoshoot, it’ll be closer to the engagement, but if you love fall, it’ll be a little while.

I know this seems weird, but we timed our engagement photos so that they would show a different season than the season of our wedding photos.  So, we knew we were having a spring wedding and would have spring photos…therefore we took our engagement pics in the fall so that we could have some fall photos.  I don’t know if anyone else thinks of it that way, but it made sense to us!

Honestly it’s totally up to you. We got engaged in May, had the pictures taken in July, and are getting married this coming May.Some girls wait longer, which is also fine. And there’s a bee right now who’s just getting to them 2 months before the wedding. It’s really a personal call.

For what it’s worth, we had ours taken early so I could start using the pictures. I want to send some to my fance’s parents. I wanted them for our Save-The-Date Cards and for other crafty projects. But that’s just me. Do what’s best for you!

We had a short-ish engagement.  We got engaged in October, had our engagement photos in May and got married in July.

@mrsmdphd: Not weird at all! That was our thought process also.

You also need to think about the weather if your photos will be taken outdoors.  I live in Texas so I am waiting until Ocotber just so we don’t melt the second we step outside.  But I would take them closer to the engagement.

Mrs. Blackberry, I would honestly wait to do your engagement photos until after you have booked your photographer for your wedding. A lot of us wedding photographers will include engagement sessions in packages and its nice to take advantage of that chance to work with your actual wedding photographer proir to the wedding. Best of luck!

We chose to do ours much closer to the engagement. Mostly because while we may include them in our save the dates, we don’t plan on displaying them at the wedding, etc, and we’re really lacking in good pictures of us together. We’ll have plenty of wedding pictures of ourselves in 2012, but we’re excited to have some pictures that reflect where we were the year we got engaged.

@mrsmdphd: Not weird at all. Mr. Fantastic and I are getting married March 2012, but we are working on scheduling an engagement shoot for this fall.

Ours is pretty smack in the middle. We got engaged in December 2009, will be getting married in May 2011, and our e-shoot is scheduled for September 2010.

We got our e-pics done 4 months before our wedding and 7 months after getting engaged so technically closer to the wedding
