So me and the mister have been arguing about this… we got engaged in December. So, I think it would be better to take wintertime pictures in keeping with the season we got engaged. Cute stuff… snowball fights, building a snow man, hot chocolate, comfy sweaters, icicles and all those happy wintertime goodies.. mister wants to wait til spring and take some flowery/pretty pictures.
The wedding is in the summer… I want to use our e pics for the STD’s. The STD’s will be sent out in winter. Now, do we want summer pics to be sent out in winter on our save the dates? or do we want spring pictures to be sent out in winter to reflect the season of the wedding more… i’m torn!

I wouldn’t overthink this one, I would just go with what looks better and will work better for your schedules. Many people don’t take the pics in the same season in which they got engaged.
Personally, I would avoid winter – the idea of it is all pretty (white fresh snow etc etc) but unless you time the photo shoot just right you might get dirty brown sludgey snow, or no snow at all and just dead brown grass on the ground, etc. We are waiting until late spring when everything is pretty and green to take ours.

You could go either way on this and it’ll be fun! I voted for spring pictures though, and it’s more based on what we’re facing.
We got engaged in December and are getting married this coming December. We may or may not be able to take outdoor pictures before the ceremony, depending on the weather. If it’s pouring out or muddy, we won’t be able to brave it. So our concession to that is that we’re going to take our e-pics in the height of summer, waiting for a beautiful sunny day. That way we’ll have some pro pics of us outside if we’re unable to do that for our wedding.
Of course, you’re getting married in the spring…but I think you’d have better luck getting good pictures then than in the winter.

My FH and I took some formal engagement pictures which I love and used for our S.T.D postage, wedding website, etc but we also plan to get a friend who is a photographer to take some outside for us in the spring time…just to have 🙂 I get so jealous when I see the great photos some of the bees have! I want outside and I want candids!!!
I agree that it isn’t something you need to overthink…you could always do it in the summer to reflect your wedding season and then have a shot that isn’t so “seasonal” for your save the date

I think maybe i’m so stuck in this because future hubby and i have soooo many pictures taken on the beach or outside in the summer… hmm who cares we’re having a friend take them anyway. We should just do both!!!

I voted winter, but only because you said that that’s when you’re sending out your Save-The-Date Cards – I am a huge advocate of using your e-pics everywhere you can, so if you can include them in your Save-The-Date Cards, that’s awesome!

I got engaged in winter and we intended to take some cute outdoors winter pics but all the snow melted the ONE weekend we were there!! I would go with the winter pics. People won’t think ahead to when the wedding is, they’ll reflect on when they are getting the photos. For a bride, the wedding is a process. For guests it is a date. I would stick with winter photos!

I think youll enjoy doing it more in the spring because it will at least be decent outside! I also think you could do really cute stuff with spring and I think pictures would look better once you have color around you again as opposed to the gray of winter! We are going to have our engagement photos taken in April and we got engaged in September. Were just doing it when its convenient for our schedules.
