I read it should be taken at the same time every day with at least 3 hrs of sleep.

Right when you wake up, before you even get out of bed. After at least 4 hrs of uninterrupted sleep.

If your waking schedule varies a lot (more than an hour or two), I would set an alarm, take your temp, then go back to sleep.

Exactly what abbyful said! I used to set an alarm on weekends and go back to sleep after temping. It seems daunting but after a few weeks of it you get totally used to it and pretty much temp in your sleep.

So true!!   I dont even remember taking my temp half the time, but the temp on the thermometer is slightly different from the day before so I must have taken a temp!

I get up at 6:30, but always found that I wake up slowly before that, and my temps were all over the place so I set my alarm for 5am, and would temp and go back to sleep, and they seemed to normalize a bit.

When I was temping, I set an alarm for earlier than I needed to get up so I’d take my temp at the same time every day and then go back to sleep until I needed to get up. You do want to get as close to the same time every day as you can.

Does your FI/DH get up at a consistent time to go to work? We take my temp when Darling Husband gets up (same time every day) and when my schedule allows it, I go back to sleep while he showers. It works great – and it’s nice to have your guy participating in the process.

I agree with PPs. I’d set an alarm for the earliest time you wake up (or earlier if you’re prone to tossing and turning a bit before your alarm goes off) and temp at that time every day. I temp at 5am, even on weekends, and I just go back to sleep after.
