So here is the deal. I am due October 4th. With my first I didn’t do a hospital tour we just got a floor plan layout on where to go. This time I want to tour and register so it’s out of the way before labor. We also have to prepay for the delivery (HMO plan) so we will do that when we tour and register.
When should we tour?
What do they show you on the tour?

I’m due June 18, and my hosptial tour is May 22. They told me to do it about a month before hand. That way it’s all fresh in your mind 🙂

I’m due in July and I’m thinking of doing it in June.

I think most people do the tour in their last trimester, but I toured in my second. I was too excited to see the hospital to wait. They didn’t seem to think it was odd that I did my tour early, so other people must do the same thing. They showed us around the maternity ward and answered questions about the delivery process. It lasted maybe 45 minutes.

I’m due May 12 and toured our hospital back in early January, but that probably isn’t the norm. I didn’t pick the day, it just got scheduled as part of our birthing class package. If you have a choice, I’d say do it 2 – 3 months out from your due date.
For our tour, they showed us what one of the L&D rooms looks like, what a postpartum room looks like and they showed us the nursery (which was empty because they encourage rooming in). They also explained some of the procedures and policies regarding guests, food (cafeteria hours, etc.), what to do when you arrive at the hospital, things like that and we were given an opportunity to ask questions.

I don’t think it really matters as long as you do the tour. Honestly, I never did and it turned out to be sort of a nightmare when we were rushing in there and going in circles trying to find where we needed to go.
