I dropped my middle name and took my maiden name as my middle. I’m from the midwest and I am the ONLY person I know who has ever done this. Some people do choose to hyphenate, but that was not going to cut it because my maiden alone is 13 letters and it would be getting ridiculous, lol! Now that I live in NC, it seems like it’s much more common to drop your given middle name.

I have never heard of anyone doing that until the Bee. It’s common around me to hyphenate your maiden with new last name or just tack on the new last name, but I haven’t heard of anyone changing their middle name.

I personally like my middle name more than my first name so I wouldn’t give it up, lol. But I’m going to take FI’s last name and lose my maiden name. It feels right for me.
