go to a different doctor!!! seriously, no question. for an ob especially, your relationship with the doctor is very important.

I am also still under my dads insurance with that new law that allows you to be til the age of 26. However, i use this as a secondary insurance and my husband and I have our own primary insurance because this health law does not include prenatal care or birth. Pregnancy is just not included under the plan.

You need to see a different doctor and explain to your current doctor your issues with his nurse. I had a doctor that lost a TON of patients because of his nurse and didn’t know that it was because of her and not him until we told him. He fired her on the spot.

I think that the age of 26 thing only covers children who are still students – I could be wrong. Regardless you should be able to pay for your own medical coverage if you can’t be on his. You may also see if you can get anything thru COBRA (usually it’s just if a worker gets laid off/or hours cut but if his company dropped spouses then you may have some options).

I’d find another doctor if I were you. Even if you ARE having insurance issues you should find someone who is going to take you seriously. Most docs will do an ultrasound at 8-10 weeks just to make sure the baby is viable. Beyond that you are PAYING for their services, they need to take time to answer your questions etc.

If you have to pay out of pocket some offices will charge reduced rates if you pay the full amount right then or will workout a payment plan. I think the most important thing is to get proper medical care.

what jerks. i’m sorry but my FH’s grandparents have both been hospitalized lately and the potty nurses or whatever else they go by were completely incompetent and nearly made his grandmother OD. It seems like there are more and more people in that profession as of late treating patients terribly so it’s best if you find a DIFFERENT OB/GYN that actually seems to care about the wellbeing of their patients. it’s your baby’s life at stake! eek!

I am in a similar situation regarding insurance and I am also pregnant. According to the new law you don’t have to be in school and you CAN be married. However, I would call your Dad’s insurance and confirm that they cover dependents maternity coverage.. some plans do, but a lot of plans don’t. Good luck!

Here is a fact sheet about the new insurance changes:

Fwiw, make sure you’re followed medically very carefully.  I too had preeclampsia w/my son and if we decide (right now it’s a no) to have a baby (got married end of July) then I’d make sure I was with a obgyn who was a specialist in t his type of problem.

But that was really horrible what you experienced in that office.  It was as if they didn’t hear what you were saying at all.  Do find another specialist!

And congratulations also in advance 🙂  Hugs.

Oh honey, get thee to a different OB! There is no excuse for that type of disrepectful and flippant treatment, and especially if you’ve had pregnancy complications before, you deserve proactive, responsible care!

Personally I’d find a new Dr. For me its not about the fact that he won’t see you until November, but more about how the appointment made you feel. This is a time in your life where you need a doctor and office staff who are going to make you feel 100% comfortable. They’ve basically invalidated all of your concerns and that should be enough to make you walk away.

the way you were treated is ridiculous.  Definitely get a new doc if you can!

I just found out I am pregnant and I too live in Grand Haven MI. I thought I’d comment on this. I don’t know what dr you go to but I am going to:

http://office.hollandhospital.org/physician_office/obgyn-associates/index.html

I went there for a pap smear earlier this year. I liked it there. I called today to make my appointment and they were very nice and they think I am 12 weeks (based on my last period but I don’t think I am that far yet. I have very irregular periods and they have become very long) anyways and she was squeezing me in because I am further along. I have two appointments this month one was suppose to be in Dec. but she felt it was urgent I get in before then.

I’m not sure if you found a dr or what but I thought I’d share this with you.
