    @graygodess20:  This is an interesting poll. I had a guy that seemed to prefer sitting next to me. It was like a reflex to him. I came to accept it as a different norm, but I preferred to sit across sometimes so we could see each other while talking.

    Across!  Even at home we sit across each other over our VERY small table so that we face each other.

    Across unless I’m negotiating something… 😉  I remember a business class where the professor told us to always sit to the side of the person when you’re negotiating (not right beside them, but if you’re at a 4 sided table sit on the west side while they sit at the south side, or similar.)  It’s less adversarial than directly across from each other.  I have a bad habit of employing this tactic in my personal life (not just with FI).

    In a booth or similar we always sit opposite unless we’re out with other people.

    We sit across from each other. I find it easier to talk that way.

    I didn’t Vote… as I needed the OTHER choice for this Question.

    It truly depends on where we are…

    If we are alone, and it is just a regular restaurant with no “unique” features, then more often not we sit across from one another.

    If if is a table for 4 and there is just the 2 of us… we sometimes will sit adjacent.

    OR if the Restaurant has some great feature (such as a view… be it of the outside, the interior design / architecture, or the game on Tv… lol) then ya, sometimes we opt to sit side-by-side.

    We had several meals on our Honeymoon where we sat side-by-side … where the view outside or of the room was begging for both of us to enjoy it.  And so we did.

    When we are out with friends, there doesn’t seem to be a rhyme or reason on where we sit … we end up sitting wherever… across, beside, adjacent, and sometimes not even close to one another if it is a big group … whatever is most convenient / works.

    @graygodess20:  When we sit at a booth, we always sit across from each other. When we sit at a square table with four sides, we sit on two different sides but the sides that are next to each other. So kind of like an L shape.

    @graygodess20:  I think sitting on the same side of the table is weird. I think it makes things a bit more difficult for the waiter. It’s also a lot harder to have a conversation with someone sitting right on top of you.

    @graygodess20:  It depends. In booths we usually sit together because we look at our phones or something together (crowded places) but in quieter places we sit across obviously

    I like to sit side by side, but he prefers to sit across from me so that we can face each other when talking.

    @graygodess20:  Across unless we’re with another couple. But I need arm room, and I would rather look at each other face to face than sideways.

    Across, unless we are somewhere with tv screens, then we sit side by side.

    @novacaineandlaughter:  +1

    We usually sit next to each other if we can, and I don’t see why this should affect other people. We don’t make out or anything, and usually we will get different meals and share, so its easier.
