…this is what my SO randomly said recently.
I responded with “No, you’re taking my name.” jokingly before adding, “I probably will change my name but I’ll figure that out when we get there. So I’ve got a few years to think about it….”
“A few years?!” He responded a little surprised.
“Yep, we’re not getting engaged anytime soon anyway!” I said in my usual smartass playful tone.
And then he said, “Aw megs are you trying to tell me I’m dragging my feet? Am I pussyfooting around?”
I just smiled very sweetly at him and didn’t say anything at all. The Southern woman in me chose silence since I didn’t have many nice things to say. He ended it by sarcastically saying, “Well, around this time next year we’ll talk about it” and then laughed really loud. He does crack himself up. But at least he considers waiting another year to be a JOKE!
He gave me a timeline and he didn’t even know it!

@MissRuthie: I will change my name 🙂 If he loves me enough to give me a ring and want to spend life with me, I can change my name lol

@MissRuthie: yay! and that’s cute. I’ve always bugged Fiance about how he should take my last name. Or, I’d take his and he’d take mine! lol
I hope you have the official name change talk soon!

Cute – he definitely was dropping a hint!
I definitely plan on changing my last name. Nobody can pronounce mine correctly (I’ve had one stranger get it right in my entire life).
It’s 11 letters long and my SO’s is 5. Nobody gets it wrong ever. I would have taken my SO’s if it was 15 letters and even worse though, I’ve always been a fan of changing my name.

@MissRuthie: I will change my name even though i love mine because it is so unique. and his last name is Gomez. The 2nd most popular last name in So Cal. Plus im not even hispanic and everyone already thinks I am. I’m going to get dirty looks when I tell people I dont speak spanish -_____- lol

I definitely would. I think that when you get married you ‘become one’ And your last name is proof of that. Plus, when we have children I wouldn’t want anything complicated. Just something simple that exemplifies our family 🙂

Aww that’s so cute! And I had a similar convo with my SO a while back. He made a comment andi answered calling him Mr(his last name) as I always do and he answered but usign my last name paused and then said soon to be (his last name) then said he rather his last name on mines. Then asked if I was totally droppingmy last name or if it it will be hyphenated. I told him i never had to think about it but most likely drop my maiden it might be to long for my taste.

I’d love to keep my name but I’ve been told by his friends that I have to take his cause his is awesome XD
I’ll admit that he does have a pretty good name (straight from the Robin Hood story) it’s just going to be weird to get used to T.T I think it’d make him happy if I took it as well 🙂

@MaidMarian: haha at least you’d have an awesome name, I’ll be taking on a very dull name and will have the same initials as his mum (middle included!) XD

@LittleWigeon: While it’s an awesome name for him it’s not going to be so awesome for me XD Just because growing up there was a girl in my classes with my name and her surname started with the same letter as his surname, for some reason she was always refered to as “Marian H” not just Marian (names have been changed to protect the innocent lol) like I was. So if I marry Boyfriend or Best Friend I feel like I’ll be the new Marian H, if that makes any sense XD
Oh man that is such an unfortunate coincidence – if you have a daughter you shall have to make sure her initials match as well XD
My BF’s mother remarried about 5 years ago so at least I won’t even be sharing the surname with her :3

@LittleWigeon: just realized I will too, lol. We are both LE-last initial.

I won’t be changing my name, it is not legal to do so where I live. But even if I had the choice, I’d keep mine. 🙂
