I live in Northern California, and we’re have our Destination Wedding in Santa Barbara, which is about 2 hours from Los Angeles. It’s a 6 hour drive for us, but we didn’t want to go out of the country for a Destination Wedding due to everyone’s finances. FH wanted to get married on the beach, and luckily California has a lot of beaches lol. We’re doing a late morning ceremony with a lunch reception, just in case people want to drive back the same day. Our budget is about $5,000, but we’re under it right now. We’re having about 25 people.

All I can say is to do your research and get creative! If your state has beaches and you can’t afford to go out of the country, check out your state! Or look for all inclusive packages for out of the country places.

We had our Destination Wedding in at The Royal in Playa del Carmen, Mexico. All the wedding expenses were $4,000 (from dress to invites to semi-private reception). This was for 15 guests.

I’d check out bestdestionationwedding.com, it’s a great site with lots of info.

My fiance and I knew from the beginning that we wanted to do a destination wedding, because one we have a TON of family and a big huge wedding here in Seattle would cost upward of $25,000 and two I have always wanted to get married on the beach. My whole family loves vacationing and we thought it would be a great way to get our family and friends together for a week long celebration!

As far as how much you should spend, you will probably want to sit down with your fiance and come up with a budget that works best for you two and work with that.

We are getting married in St. Thomas USVI and our total destination wedding including our honeymoon is about $12,000 for everything. We are also doing a seperate honeymoon and a ton of extras, which made the price higher. If we just did the basics and not all the extras, we could easily spend $8,000 for the whole thing. Good luck! 🙂

Check out the Palace Resorts http://weddings.palaceresorts.com/. We have attended a wedding there AND are getting married there because the wedding we attended was so awesome. For your guests its all inclusive (meals. alcohol, room service, hot tubs in everyroom AND a liquor dispenser in every room that is refilled every night…FOR FREE), plus, depending on how long they stay the can get up to $1500 in resort dollars to spend on the spa, golf, tours, watersports, etc. It’s pretty epic. For you guys…if enough people book rooms (for example) if we have 25 rooms booked for at least 3 nights each we get ALL of our private parties for free. Soooo the reception…is …free. (I think my friend had to pay for the DJ and some lighting for the reception…but the food, alcohol, and cake was all included) Also…your room would be free. I’m not kidding. The website is really helpful and has all the information that you need…you can actually check wedding date and time availability at each resort without having to talk to a person. When you are ready to reserve a date and time you will here back from them almost immediately…with a contract and they expect you put down some money pretty quickly.Anyway…it’s the best deal we could find!

We’re doing everything in vegas and it’s costing about $5,500, for 40 guests (tho I’m secretly hoping for less).   That’s our ceremony package, dinner at a nearby restaurant and then drink specials at a lounge for our guests after dinner.
