Perhaps there are a lot of brides marrying this summer and jumping the broom. I am getting married this weekend and have yet to find a broom to decorate for this ceremony. Any suggestions? I have gone to Michael’s, AC Moore, and Hobby Lobby — no one has a broom. Any help would be greatly appreciated. We’re running out of time! : )

We purchased a cinnamon broomstick from the dollar store and i’m taking it to Michaels to have it decorated. I’ve also seen them sold in a few grocery stores as well near the floral section.

I’ve always bought brooms at the hardware store. Try Ace or Home Depot.

I had a difficult time finding a wedding broom for our wedding. We ended up using a very traditional broom made of fallen palm frond. You should also try Etsy. I did see a few on there some time ago.

I purchased mine at http://www.stuartscreations.com. I purchased an undecorated one, and me and the fi decorated it together… good luck.

@lauren810c: and
@jamiemichelle: “Jumping the Broom” is a symbol of sweeping away the old and welcoming the new, or a symbol of new beginnings.
You can read more here
@YouSoSweet: They currently have broom at the Dollar Tree since they have a lot of their Fall seasonal items out. My sister asked my mom to make hers for her September wedding and that’s where she got the broom from. My mom is going to add the flowers and ribbon herself in the colors of the wedding.

@lauren810c: @jamiemichelle: Jumping the broom is an African-American tradition, dating back to the days of slavery when slaveowners would often not let their slaves marry, so they would jump over a broom to symbolize the setting up of a new household. This topic is posted on the African-American board so many black brides or brides marrying into a black family would know the reference 🙂
My DH’s aunt purchased our broom from a wedding broom maker, not sure who, but it had our wedding colors and a cloth from Africa. We loved it!

I got my brooms from http://www.jumpbroom.com – this lady was really nice and shipped it the same day. My aunt decorated it for us and it was really beautiful
