I’m 40+ and Encore!!  This time around, I’m NOT having a JOP wedding!

ETA:  Do you think we can lobby Mrs Penguin to add a 40+ encore blogger?

Not having bridesmaids, invitations, traditional dress, traditional ring etc…getting married in our own garden with our daughter as flower girl and our dog as ring bearer…then off to a hall for a party with all our friends…no gifts…just a good old knees up! 🙂

I was 56 when I remarried.  This time around, I got an evening reception with dancing for our at-home reception.  My first marriage, the only reception was just a lunch, with no music or dancing.

Hi all,

I am over 50, and an Encore Bride.

First Wedding (circa 1980) was a the traditonal big white pouffy family church wedding with reception for just over 100

This time round…

An Elopement to a Destination Wedding… just the 2 of us and the Officiant.  On the beach in the US South.  Fairly informal, although I plan to wear something of a Wedding Dress (not white… probably champagne).  May or may not carry a bouquet of flowers (thinking now is flowers & sea shells).  Pics in the Resort Garden, pics on the beach, pics at Sunset.  Champagne on the Balcony overlooking the Ocean… and then Dinner Seaside in one of our favourite restaurants.

All this followed by a Honeymoon Cruise in the Caribbean.  CANNOT WAIT !!

A couple weeks after our Honeymoon and we are back home then a Reception Party with dear Friends & Family.  With a Surf & Shore theme to reflect a bit of our Wedding & Honeymoon.  Cocktails & Nibbles, Champagne & Cake… DJ & Dancing.  And a whole lot of fun.

Fiance and I are both 42!  I got the actual proposal (not the drunken handing over of the ring box) and so I’m happy.

This time around, I am having what I want, with FI’s blessing.  And I’m not marrying a horrible person this time. Smile

This time I’m not walking into church looking like a lamb going to the slaughter wearing an awful white dress that my mother picked out for me. I’m not worrying about whether I’m making a mistake and feeling like everyone can see that written on my face. Those are the things that I’m not doing.

What I am doing this time is weaing a kickass pink and pale grey gown on the arm of my 22 year old son, and having my 20 year old daughter stand up as my maid of honour.  I am going to have the biggest, shit-eating grin on my face knowing that everyone can see it, and understanding why it’s there. And I’m going to marry the guy I fell madly in love with at 17 years old, and again at 46.  That’s what I’m going to do.

This time, no white dress, no bridesmaids, no liturgy.  A private handfasting, which will be our real wedding ceremony, followed by a jaunt to City Hall to make it legit.  I’ll be wearing red for both.  We’ll schedule a big, fun, rolicking party a month or two after City Hall.

I’m over here! 43 and encore! This time around, I’m making it more personal…not the cookie-cutter celebration I had last time.
