@madeofdaisies:  where in asia are you from? have you visited there together? i would make sure that you’ve visited there for (hopefully) an extended period of time so that he can get a preview of what life would be like. i’d book some appointments to see houses, so you can both see what you could afford and what they would be like etc – just make it very real instead of a vacation. 

if that’s already happened and he’s gung ho to move there, i’d try to mitigate the circumstances. so i’d talk to my parents about how wonderful my Fiance is to move there, but that in his culture it is important to respect certain things as private etc. It’s just as important to prepare your family at home for his arrival as they other way around. 

if you choose to stay in the uk for a few years, i would make sure that buying will make fiscal sense for that small amount of time. there may be more costs associated with buying than you realise, and what you will get for it in 3 to 5 years is not guaranteed and doesn’t leave much room for appreciation in value. if that’s the case – i’d probably move to asia sooner rather than later 🙂
