The ONLY thing we’re splurging on is food, which is hilarious. Everything else we’re doing pretty inexpensively (although very classy). Food is out thing, so we’re having great food! I woudl say like 70% of the budget is food!

venue (I thought this was the most important thing!)
dress/hair/makeup/shoes (I am into clothes and makeup)
decor (not needed b/c the venue is very nice)

Splurged on photography (LOVE our photographers, worth every penny), venue (it’s so beautiful!), music (6 piece band), and dress (Monique Lhuillier purchased used). Skimped on videography (just having a friend do it), food (cheapest options), paper ($75 STD’s, Wedding Paper Divas invites), guest list, cake (simple white cake with flowers from a donut shop!).

- Save the dates/stationary
I would categorize everything else as a splurge with the biggest ones being
- Band (10 piece orchestra)

Venue (it was a steal for an amazing space)
Drinks (beer and wine because our families arent huge drinkers)
Dessert (some will be homemade because I am a pastry chef and I have been told it will be expected)
Music (friendor my brother hooked me up with!)

Food and Alcohol…and the venue – splurge!

The only place we really splurged in our budget was venues.
We wanted a great backdrop, great service, the right location, great catering that came with our reception venue, and all of the little perks that came along with that. That is what made our wedding really smooth and stress-free, but still beautiful. I’m still glad that’s where we put most of our budget.

I splurged on my veil, and food.

- Wedding: September 2013 - B&B
Splurging on the venue (although I still think I got a really good deal!)
Food and alcohol
Cutting back on:
Flowers – I have NO flowers! granted I am making 6 brooch bouquets total, but our centerpieces are very cheap
Some decor – managing to find stuff very cheap on ebay, from friends, or borrowing
Desserts – we will have a dessert spread, but half of it will be home made and im going very simple for the cake
-Attire – I got lucky here with a free dress! That I am spending some money to embellish.
Overall I’m very cost consious about the entire wedding. I have a budget and I’m sticking to it!

Definitely splurging on photography. I LOVE our photographer.
We are also having an open bar. We were going to do this in whichever way was possible, and we were happy to discover it fit into our catering budget to have the caterer handle it.
You could say I sort of cut corners on my dress, but actually, I found a dress I loved and then found a way to purchase it for less (from another bride, who never actuallty wore it, rather than from a salon that wanted an inflated price since it’s a “past season” dress). We’re also not having a DJ, since we don’t want one.
I think we’re spending right about the middle of the market on most other things – can’t spend a lot less unless we cut the category entirely, but we could spend a lot more for the fancier stuff. Flowers in particular comes to mind.

Slurge: Venue, Dress, Photographer and DJ
Cut: Flowers, Favors, Invites (DIY!), alcohol (only beer and wine)
