I’m from New Orleans, LA. I fall in love with this place over and over again on a regular basis. We have the most resilient, fun-loving, welcoming, friendly citizens. This place is infectious. It gets a bad wrap a lot but you can’t really know the true charm of the city if you come here for the alcohol.
I went to a bar last night and overheard some people from Europe talking. All I heard was ‘This city is like no other place in the US, I love it.’ Then, we took our drinks outside (yes, alcohol outside) to watch a brass band play on the street. Street performances here are so much fun, they often turn into block parties where people dance, make friends and just love life.
My most favorite memory of this place is when the Saints won the Superbowl – I’ve never hugged so many strangers in my life. The city came together and cried, laughed, cheered all in the streets. It was better than Mardi Gras. No one was really a stranger that night. I’ve never seen such pure happiness and hope on so many people’s faces.
I don’t know if I will ever be able to live anywhere else. Travel – yes a lot. No other place in the world will ever be ‘home’ though.
The only complaints I have about NOLA are the heat/humidity and the crime. It’s not enought to keep me away though.
ETA: We’re most famous for Mardi Gras (it’s really family oriented if you’re a local) and Hurricane Katrina (ugh….)

I think my Fiance and I are doing a mini-moon after the wedding to New Orleans! We have never been, and since we are having cajun food at our wedding we thought it would be fitting! Would you mind if I got in touch with you to get suggestions on what to do when we are there?

Depends on what they want to know. My ethnic origins, I am originally from India. South Indian to be exact.
But if they want to know my ‘home’ home, within England, I’m from near Cambridge. I’ve lived in England for the past 18+ years, so I consider England my home.

I am from Toms River, New Jersey. What’s interesting about my area is that you see it often on tv when Jersey Shore is filmed (I live 10 minutes from Seaside). Sha-zam.

I’m from Cape Town, South Africa and we lovingly call it The Mother city. I think when people hear ‘South Africa’ they think Nelson Mandela and when they hear ‘Cape Town’ they think Table Mountain.
I love my home, i love its diversity, i love that we sometimes have all four seasons in one day.
Cape Town fun fact:
Cape Town has five animals that form the big five’s – elephant, buffalo, leopard, lion and rhino. It is also home to the little five. They are – rhino beetle, ant lion, leopard tortoise, elephant shrew and buffalo weaver
