James Allen! Just do a loose diamond search, they have tons of criteria. Obviously just choose the I or I1 categorie and start at the lowest prices.

@dooner:  I’d love to see a follow up on this for pictures of rings with imperfect diamonds. I’m back and forth on it, but kind of love the idea of small spots. Not big inclusions that would nix the sparkle, but little dots that I can see if I look. Birthmarks. 🙂

@dooner:

Very interesting idea.  So you don’t buy in to the usual diamond scam?  Good for you.

I think that some of the big reputable online diamond sellers might help: Whiteflash, Good Old Gold, Brian Gavin, Diamonds from Lauren.  They do source diamonds but don’t expect them to do so cheaply.  The other thing you could try is contacting diamond merchants directly in Amsterdam or Israel.

Be aware that if there are lots of inclusions there might be structural weaknesses so you might need a cutter who knows what they are doing.  The ideal diamond would be one with flaws but sparkle or flaws but colour.  You probably still need a really well cut diamond.

If you can’t get the flawed diamond you want then you could try getting a diamond that is a much lower colour than usual – M – Z  with a yellow, brown, green, grey, blue or pink tint.  Diamonds by Lauren sell this kind of thing, maybe Wink Jones too.  I suspect that these diamonds are very beautiful if cut well.

Or you could get an unusual shape such as a trillian (triangle).  I personally wish that someone would sell an octagonal radiant for those of us who like the radiant pattern but don’t suit square gems.

Or you could have an asymmetrical ring designed.  HK Jewelllery in the UK do these.  Symmetry is over-rated and asymmetry is wonderful if done well.

Good luck.
