starkravingbride:  If you can’t find an e-ring maybe get a band instead? I always find that a better stand in and way less showy.

starkravingbride:  Could you not just go one night without the ring?

Walmart, Target, TJ Maxx, Amazon, Overstock all have cheap rings that you can use as a stand in. I have a cute sterling silver ring that I bought for $25 that I use on international trips, camping, or just don’t want to wear my e-ring.

MsBeer:  +1. I got a stand-in ring thinking I’d need it at times and I’ve never ever worn it. It was cheap, but still a waste of money that I wish had gone to something useful.

It’s not a big deal to go out one night without a ring. Are you and your SO engaged yet BTW? I think you were saying you guys weren’t yet not too long ago and even though you got the ring, you didn’t mention anything about a proposal so i was curious.

MsBeer:  Apparently it’s like that episode of How I Met Your Mother when Robin becomes invisible with the ring on.

starkravingbride:  SPICE GIRL ALL THE WAY BABY!
Courtney Love’s look is super “in” right now (90’s fashion is coming back, hard) so I would opt for Scary or Baby Spice… Or Ginger. Their looks were very distinguished.

As for a substitute ring, I actually found a sterling silver fake engagement ring on Groupon once for like $15 bucks. I wore it to the Gay Pride Parade in NYC because I didn’t want to lose my Engagement Ring or get robbed. (I’m like you)

PPs suggestions are also helpful. I’ll add Jc Penney, Sears, Macys, Ross and Marshalls into the running as well. Anywhere with costume jewelry, really.

starkravingbride:  I get your point. You are clearly prettier than I am though as I have been single a year and a half and dont get hit on daily 😉 I would use it as a jolly good excuse for an ego boost though, ha ha.

TheGridMonster:  I would rather spend the money on some cocktails on said night out.

is your ring insured? is it really crazy big (like >3 carats)?

I don’t think that a stand in is necessary for a bar crawl…. I can see not wearing your ring in the ocean or something like that but to be honest if it fits right and its a normal ring I don’t see why you would be at risk

Philly (and to the above poster NYC) are not 3rd world countries where people cut your fingers off for a ring… I honestly doubt you would even get a second glance

I understand having a stand-in ring for activities like hiking/camping where a ring may be damaged, but it seems excessive for a bar crawl. If your ring fits correctly, it shouldn’t be any more likely to fall off when you are drinking than when you are sober. As for drunk (or sober) men hitting on you, that can happen whether you are “taken” or not (ugh, I despise that use of the word).

Save your money and just leave your ring at home if you’re so worried. And definitely get it insured if you think it’s worth chopping your finger off for.

starkravingbride:  I got my stand in Berricle ring (6.5mm cushion cut solitaire) for $28 and change, including tax. Not sure what you’re looking at that’s so expensive…. And yeah, they shipped super fast. Had it in 2 days.

starkravingbride:  Get something kind of nice so you can wear it on multiple occasions. Like a high quality CZ set on a sterling silver or white gold band. This may be the first time this issue is coming up for you, but it definitely won’t be the last!
