Try your China Town. I got a custom made one in Vancouver’s china town and it was peice of cake.

I checked those two out too and didn’t find anything I liked. I’ve heard good things about places in Oakland if you want to go across to the east bay. Otherwise, I’m getting a special dress made at iRomance in the Richmond. They don’t make qi paos usually (I don’t think, you should double check), but they have a great selection of rent-ables.

I actually bought mine online.  I went this route because I knew I wanted a purple cheongsam.  I ordered in the beginning of May, and got it this week.  I was apprehensive about measuring myself and hoping they’d get it right, but it was really easy.  I got to pick out my fabric, style, and buttons.  The price was really reasonable, and I’m glad that I did this; my sister got married five years ago and paid more than twice what I did!

I went to a chinese tailor in my local chinatown and had one made. It wasn’t too expensive and very easy.

@Yokyee:

I ordered mine online as I live in a state with no chinatown (went to Chicago to shop with Mother-In-Law but didn’t find much). I used efushop.com and it turned out great. I had it made custom to my measurements and was able to find a style that I loved but was still traditional enough for DH’s family (his family is Chinese, I am more of a European mix).

And here’s a picture for an example of what the dress looked like.

@sweetsunrise:  Oh wow, I love the style of your qipao! I went on the website and couldn’t believe how much one costs! I was wanting tobuy one for my BMs too but I don’t think I can afford it for them now. 🙁
