Have you tried going to Sephora? I had the same problem when I had my makeup done at MAC: any teeny lines looked way worse. I find that since Sephora has such a wide range of products that they can find something that will work with any skin type. When I last had my makeup done at Sephora, my fiance thought I looked gorgeous, and my fine lines were barely noticable. Plus their makeovers are free if you spend over $50.

I just turned 36 and I’m noticing the same thing!  I buoght a good eye moisturizer and I exfoliate consistently.  The best makeup I’ve found is Cle de Peau.  I love how my skin looks and I get enough coverage that I feel transformed.  I bought the concealer for my wedding and I am nowhere near using it up.  The powder foundation replaced my Bare Minerals…

If you find a counter near you, go for a makeover or just request samples.  I haven’t been tempted to try anything else since I found this brand!

MAC makeup is clay based. I have tried so many different kinds of MAC foundation and it always looks like a layer just floating on top of my skin. It doesn’t blend and when I move my face it cracks. Try a different brand. Go to the cosmetic department of a department store or sephora and try on a bunch of different foundations.

@Crazyhair:  I am sooo glad you posted this. I had a trial at MAC last week(I’m 34) I felt like I looked a good 10 years older….I was not happy with it at all!

definitely try another brand of foundation.  also, make sure that your skin is cleansed and moisturized prior to mu application.  wait a while after moisturizing before starting your makeup.  like 5min or so.

@Crazyhair:  I’m telling you… I’m a Sephora junkie, but I love this stuff.  It is expensive, as in, are-you-kidding-me expensive, but I feel flawless in it.  Have you considered airbrushing?  My trial with it was great.

Every time I’ve had the ladies at the department store cosmetics counters do my makeup, they’ve put it on way to heavy. I swear, they don’t know the concept of a little goes a long way.

@Crazyhair:  I wear it now whenever I wear makeup and I like how it looks throughout the day, but for the wedding I also added a setting spray.  Concealer was $70… foundation around $100.  Ack!  I’m sorry!  But it is really amazing stuff!  I still have the concealer and I haven’t used half of it yet.. we are several months past our first anniversary.  Get enough samples to use them for a trial run and for the second day.

@Loribeth:  +1 I have never had my makeup done anywhere that hasn’t gone crazy overboard. I bought some Bare Minerals, and while we were testing colors (which, by the way, she chose one that was about 5 shades too dark and orange for me), she put it on SO HEAVY. I put it on myself and it covers wonderfully without looking cakey and gross.
