I got my engagement ring at Greenberg’s. It’s family owned, though they have several stores throughout Nebraska, Iowa, and South Dakota.
We honestly didn’t even consider looking at any other stores. I had my heart set on a Tacori, and my fiance really wanted me to get what I loved … Greenberg’s is the only jeweler in Omaha that carries Tacori. We went to the store together, I tried on a few different styles, and I chose the setting I liked most. We also selected the diamond from the loose diamonds they had available in store … I was very lucky because they happened to have a gorgeous emerald cut (which is what I really wanted) in a perfect size (for me!) available.
I was really pleased with the customer service (as was my fiance). They treated us very respectfully, but also made us feel comfortable … It definitely wasn’t a “snooty” kind of place, and they didn’t put a lot of pressure on us to buy.
We’re planning to get our wedding bands there as well. I really want the matching band for my ring, and even though he’s not really into jewelry at all, he thought the Tacori men’s rings were pretty nice … He even tried a few on when we went to pick out my engagement ring. I’m actually looking forward to another shopping experience there!

@MrsMaskatoBe: Ooh! Your ring is soooo pretty! Love it!
DH bought all our rings at Jared. I had no idea they were the same company as Kay. I hate Kay jewelers, well all mall jewelers for that matter. The sales people are always so pushy and their selection sucks. I’ve noticed that Jared has way better sales associates and their selection is way better. I’m actually pretty shocked about the Kay thing. Anyhoo, I fell in love with a particular Neil Lane ring that is only sold at Jared so that and the fact that DH really likes our local store was why we went there. We also like that we went in once and the whole staff remembers us, they do all their repairs/cleaning on site and their lifetime warranty is awesome. Hope This Helps 🙂

@MrsWBS: OMG! What a bitch! And so rude! We love all the people we’ve dealt with at Jared. I hope you complained to a manager. I can totally understand why you’d never go to them again. I’m totally that way too.

The only place I was willing to get a diamond was from Brilliant Earth. They specialize in conflict-free, Canadian diamonds and sustainable jewelry. I ended up getting my stone there and then my setting at another place with sustainable jewelry.

We went to a mall jeweller – Ben Moss. We did get a fairly decent deal – 30% off everything, including wedding ring and tax – for a Canadian diamond. I think if we had had more disposable income, I might have gone to a family jeweller, but we were in 3rd year college, so we got what we could afford.

Honestly, the customer service sold me. We went to lots of other stores where they had rings I liked but the service was terrible. The girls at Kay spent hours finding me the perfect ring and getting us financed for it.

Devons for the E ring. A local family jeweler called Skalet Family Jewelers for the band. SCREAMIN’ deal, can’t wait to upgrade with them later!

Wondering if anyone has tried to haggle or play the “well this store is offering this deal” game? I know all these stores are in competition and they know it too! Might as well use that to your advantage right?

My Fiance got my engagement ring from Michael Hill in Westfield Henderson, Auckland, New Zealand and he said that the service he got was amazing! He even haggled with them a bit and they happily dropped the price down a $1000 ! ( He didn’t expect that!)
He said that the saleswomen were all really helpful and he didn’t feel pressurised at all, and they asked him how big my fingers are and what I like etc, and he ended up getting me a floral 1ct cluster ring in 18ct gold with a channel band which I ADORE! I couldn’t have picked better myself :3 It’s clarity is amazing, and it sparkles so much!
I think after what I’ve heard from him and other people about their Michael Hill experiences we’ll definitely be getting our wedding bands from Michael hill 🙂

@MrsWBS: People at Jared were rude to us too. They kept pressuring him to buy even though we said we we’re just looking which we were.
When we walked in with the setting and asked if it could be repaired she came back to us with a sad face and said “The only thing that can fit in here is a 1-1.25 round diamond. The head on our settings can be switched to any size, so you could get something smaller or a different cut.”
We just looked at her like wtf. And told her we knew that is what fit in there we don’t care what has to go in it all we wanted to know is wether it could be repaired or not. And then she light up offered us water and explained the process for repairing it there.
Since she mentioned having to send it out I knew we wouldn’t be going back there for the repair. And after sitting down and looking at loose stones with her we knew would we wouldn’t be getting the diamond from her either.
It did help us hammer down the specifics but she was pushy, I didn’t care for any of the diamonds they showed me, and they were all way overpriced.
At the time we weren’t even engaged he was just looking to see what sort of diamond I wanted to put in the setting.
In the end he bought the diamond from the Jewelry Exchange and they repaired the setting on site. It is a beautiful reasonably priced diamond, he did a great job.

We purchased the setting from Littman’s and I wish we hadn’t (there is nothing wrong with the setting it’s perfect) they have the worst customer service ever! The day we picked out the ring they were especially helpful knowing that I was looking at semi mounts and that I had a very particular stone in mind for the center. We asked her if she could source the particular stone and she said that it was not a problem, she also said that if we found a stone somewhere else they would set it for $200 or less (not really a great deal but we had other motivations). We purchased the setting. The sales lady said she would have several loose stones fitting my specifications available for us the following week. So, we went back the following week and she had one which was the wrong size, cut and clarity not to mention treated. While I was there two more came via FedEx and she made a huge deal about how the one was perfect and I had to have it. It was the wrong size, clarity and treated. I brought my then Fiance into see it and he agreed with me. The sales lady, the store gemologist and another sales lady tried to talk me into the stone knowing how I had specified what I was looking for and that the stone was far from it. Then I was told that I was not going to find what I was looking for (outside of their connections) and that all stones are treated! I left irritated and they were still buzzing about how they would find me the perfect stone. Flash forward a couple weeks, no contact from them when they had said they would be getting back to us within days. I hear about a couple wholesalers and decide to send Fiance for a visit. He got EXACTLY what I wanted for less than they were trying to sell me their crappy stone for. I stopped by and asked them about setting it, their whole mood changed and all of a sudden they were the least helpful sales people on earth. They didn’t give me any information on setting it, said they would call back, never did. I called, showed up, and called some more and they finally quoted me $350+ after they had said $200 when we were purchasing the damn setting! I have been back by there since and they are rude and completely unhelpful. If I didn’t love the setting so much I definitely would have taken it back! I just can’t understand why they would be so freaking rude when they knew I was planning on setting it that would have been the easiest $200 they ever made! Not to mention the setting wasn’t cheap by any means and they are totally not getting my future business.
