@Rouquine:  Have you checked with any rental places in your area?  A lot of times it’s cheaper to rent a cake stand than to purchase.

We got ours at Macy’s. It’s by Martha Stewart.

I made our cake stand just like you said! an antique china plate and a candy dish and glued them together with some E6000 on the bottom. I am having two cakes becuase I have a lot of family with food allergies, the other cake stand is a simple glass cake dome I got from Bed Bath Beyond for about $20 and I have allready been using it for parties etc at home, it is the kind that doubles as a punch bowl which I LOVE!

There are a lot of great pictures on this site. but keep in mind that whatever you use for the bottom mas to have a pretty wide mouth to make it less wobbely

I saw this one just last night when I was looking for something else. They used martini glasses filled with flowers.

I would not use the flowers on the table so the ones in the glasses are featured.

I got mine for $12.99 at Marshals! Completely randomly, I was killing time, and found it in our wedding color! They had a bunch in different styles/colors.

I am renting mine, but she also sells them. I looove it! It’s from Fabulous Cake Stands at http://www.nolabstyle.com. Her work is amazing. Here’s a pic, but it will also have a few crystals hanging from the scrollwork.

We actually rented the cake “stand” from our baker, and it worked out well! We just put a deposit down and then it was returned once they received the cake stand back after the wedding.
