My Fiance got mine on Blue Nile. He also bought my setting from there, but you can buy loose diamonds if you want. He absolutely LOVED working with them. They were really helpful, their site is so detailed that you can set all kinds of parameters in your search–from the usual cut, color, clarity, etc. to as detailed as the ratio of the length and width of the diamond. So he was basically able to research the ideal for each parameter and get exactly what he wanted. I have an emerald cut, which is pretty similar to an Asscher and it is beautiful! I definitely recommend them. And my ring got appraised for much more than he paid, so their prices are good as well.

We bought our stone in a Diamonds International shop in the Bahamas. We had a similar issue when it came to being able to find a stone we wanted. We wanted a light fancy yellow cushion. Yeah. We had to go to the Bahamas before we found one we could see in person. 🙂 We certainly shopped around at different places before we made the final purchase.

He got mine at a small local shop where I used to work that has a private dealer who only sells GIA certified stones. The shop also orders from Stuller.com if that site has what the customer wants already in stock. I always loved seeing the “diamond guy” come in. It was like christmas 🙂

Got my diamond at a local jeweler here in Chicago in Jeweler’s Row. The owner of the jewelry store (who helped us custom make my ring) owns another business where he sells diamonds in wholesale to local jewelers so he kinda sets the price in the area, giving us a really great deal on the diamond.

@Mrs. Fireworks: Which jeweler? We’re looking to purchase/design a ring when we’re in Chicago for Christmas and I’m in need of recommendations!

@ane7: Awesome! Go to Windy City Diamonds (1 S. Wabash in Chicago) and talk to Garry if you can. He’s the owner and not only is he knowledgeable and helpful, but he is so nice and accomodating!

Also have to add that I recommended Wincy City Diamonds to a co-worker this fall when her guy was in the middle of the ring-buying process. He ended up going there and custom making her ring as well and she is equally as happy with the quality of the ring and the customer service! A+++ in my book!

My then-FI purchased my engagement-ring setting, loose diamond, and wedding band from a local jewelry store, which offered better pricing based on the fact that we were obtaining all three items there.  I also received a good price when I later purchased DH’s wedding band from the same jeweler.

We went to since1910.com. The experience there was amazing.  We worked with Brad.  He was extremely helpful and the prices were great. Check out the website! My setting is a Henri Daussi and my diamond is a cushion cut from since1910.com inventory.

My setting is from Shane Co but the stone is from highperformancediamonds.com The jewelers name is wink jones, and he is a pleasure to work with. I highly reccomend his stones. He makes “hearts on fire” diamonds but without the brand name.

My Fiance and I got mine from Jareds!  They were reasonably priced and very nice to work with!

We purchased my stones from a small, local jeweler and had them make my custom settings. We got my stones, engagement ring setting, and eternity band setting for about $1000 less than JUST the cost of my center stone if we had purchased it through Blue Nile or Brilliant Earth.
