@FireflyT: That is a good point about Blue Nile, however, there are online vendors who will definitely let you all but hold and see the stone with your own eyes. Meaning, Good Old Gold for example, will show you as many photos as you want, magnified to show any inclusions, ASETs, etc, and will even make you videos of stones compared with others. Plus, every stone they put up in their inventory has been hand-selected and personally inspected by their staff, not to mention actually being in-house, which is just like you mentioned an advantage with a local jeweler. GOG isn’t alone in this type of service, either.

Fiance got my stone and setting from GOG. ๐Ÿ™‚

My Fiance actually got mine at Costco.  Doesn’t sound like the best place to buy jewelry, but they actually carry high quality at really good prices.  Worth looking into ๐Ÿ™‚

Diamond and setting were from Adiamor.com

I HIGHLY recommend them. Stones are GIA certified and prices are great.

Also, they are great about returns/repairs.

If you get the ring/diamond and don’t like it, you can send it back for a 100% refund. They also re-size for free.

My engagement ring was his grandmothers, but my wedding band came from http://www.gemvara.com

For my first wedding, my ering was from Macy’s and my wedding wrap was from Jared’s.

He got me an e-ring/wedding band set from Kay Jeweler’s. They were really great at customizing the ring to our liking with a 1c black diamond in the center of the e-ring.

I have yet to buy his wedding band, but I’ll most likely get it at Kay Jeweler’s in a few months.

My diamond is GIA graded & laser inscribed ID # in a custom platinum setting. I love it! And he paid about 1/3 less than he would have in a local jewelry store.

@Mrs. Puffin:  **giggles**

Same here – he went to Jared’s.  Also got our bands from there.

http://www.goodoldgold.com

It’s a great online retailer and brick and mortar store in New York. My stone is certified GIA. They also have AGS certified stones as well.
