I’m so happy to say that my Fiance has really come out of his shell as far as his fashion choices are concerned. When we met, I think he only owned two pair of pants, one pair of shoes & 4 or 5 t-shirts. Now, he takes up almost as much closet space as I do. He welcomes prints and bright colors into his everyday attire.
We both want to look our best on our wedding day, and he’s turning to me for guidance, but aside from a plain black suit, I’ve got nothin’. We don’t want a rented anything. We want to purchase something that can be tailored to fit him like a glove. I want him to be able to have fun with his outfit too.
Our colors are black, brown, ivory & metallics. My bridesmaids will be wearing floor length black dresses of their choice, and the groomsmen will be wearing black suits of their choice as well. We haven’t decided anything on shirts or ties except that they will be wearing them, lol!
I think black would look the best, but I’m looking for something that’s a bit different than just a plain black suit.
My dress is champagne & black; I totally love it. But this day isn’t all about me, & I want him to have something he loves too. So, as he turns to me, I turn to you guys… Where do we start looking? What are some shops (online or otherwise) that have really cool/modern suits for fashionable guys? Post any ideas you may have. We need help.

What are you looking to spend?
I normally recommend Suitsupply, but they only have one black suit and it’s pricey ($780).
My recommendation on shirts and ties in your color scheme is to go with white shirts and ties in black/white, gray, and silver. That would be the most elegant possible look.

We are going to get a suit for Fiance and his groomsmen at an outlet, probably Jos A Bank. With holiday sales on top of outlet pricing you can get really suits really inexpensive. My brother recently got a three piece black suit for $130 with a normal price of $600.
Depending on your budget, I have also seen Hugo Boss suits at a Saks outlet during a holiday sale for $400 that retail for $1500-$2000

We’re renting a tux (Vera Wang Black, slim fit) from Men’s Warehouse.
In my area, if you manage to get 6 tux rentals from MW, you have the option of either a free rental for the groom (meaning they no longer charge you for it) or a store credit of $500, which is obviously much more appealling in the long run.
I think you might want to check out some outlet malls for a decent quality suit at a good price. There are Tanger and Simon outlets all over the country, and so many of the stores in there have great quality suits at a discount. Visit the information desk first stop to check for coupons, and also check online for sales and coupons before you go.
During a holiday, the prices can go pretty low but the mall itself would be packed full, so that’s a caveat. But there’s stores like J. Crew, Banana Republic, Calvin Klein, etc. that have their usual clothes at a discount, which is awesome.
Once you find a good suit, take it home and find a good tailor to make sure that it fits him properly.
That way, he’ll be able to have a perfectly tailored suit for as long as he can fit in it! 😛
It’s totally worth the money (almost more so than a wedding dress is, since you can still wear it after)

My Fiance went to Armani, this is the first tux he’s ever owned. They tailored it for free with purchase. He bought his shirt, cufflinks and bow tie at Neimans. I don’t know what your budget is, but Tom Ford makes incredible tuxedos in all different colors (some really cool like silver), they are definitely investment pieces though.

I’m not too concerned with the price. I mean, I won’t spend 5k on it, but I won’t let the price tag scare me away. We have a men’s wearhouse near us. I wasn’t pleased with them at all for my Future Sister-In-Law wedding. There isn’t much else where I live.
I figure if I drove several hours to a dress shop for my gown, we’d do it for his suit. Same with the cost. I’m willing to spend for his attire just like for mine. We really want something… different.
I like the ‘Ackson/Hastings’ (Hugo Boss)

We got my husband’s suit at Macy’s. We registered there as well and when we went into the store to scan away, they gave us a bunch of coupons. So, when we went back to buy his suit we got an extra 20% off his suit, tie and shirt.
ETA: His suit was already on sale and the ties were as well. We got DH’s suit, two dress shirts, and 4 ties (him + 3 groomsmen) for about $450.

Nordstrom has hands down been amazing for a lot of our wedding wear needs. My fiance got his Hugo Boss suit during the anniversary sale, and it was tailored (twice!) for free because he was being extra picky about an arm length. They also offer custom shirts made to all your specs and in any fabric you like starting at $100. He also took in some leather oxfords that had a scuff to see if they could buff it out and they handed him an identical new pair instead. The customer service that makes you feel special has been really nice for all these wedding purchases.

@DachshundDoc: Did y’all use the one in the Galleria? Houston is the closest city for us. (I got my dress in The Woodlands)

He got his at Joseph A. Bank. He got a deal for buying both his and the best man’s suit there.

@MoodyFoodie: Go to Neimans, they have a gorgeous selection of slim-cut modern suits and if your price range is up to 5K, you’ll find something awesome there. You could probably even pick up a shirt and cufflinks within that price range! Plus, their service is great and alterations are free. I don’t think you’ll find the cut/fabric/quality you’re looking for at other mass retailers.
