@Rubbs:  I didn’t dislike Shutterfly. I got my album for a very affordable price and it wasn’t too hard to figure out. You just need the patience to edit stuff yourself and figure out what order to put the photos in and what photos to put on the same page if you want to do that…and I didn’t realize at first that you could put text into the pages. My problem was that I wasn’t very organized about it at all and was scrolling through over a thousand pictures from my photographer and putting them into my book. Makes a whole lot more sense to make a separate folder and narrow it down to even 100 photos to make the process easier  >.<

@tmsing:  Oh, ok. Thanks. I didn’t like most of my photos, so I won’t have much of a problem choosing a small amount.

@texasrandi:  I would love to real real life photos of your books if you don’t mind sharing! I’ve been looking at both Artifact Uprising and Artisan State for our wedding book. So hard to choose!

@Pinkmoon:  Thanks for posting pics- looks great! Were you happy with the quality of the pics and the photo paper they used? (It looks great in the pictures – must look even better in person!)

@FoolsintheRain:  Yah, very happy with it. Even the thin option is quite thick and study. I think I’d go with thick for our wedding album just to make it even nicer. The printing quality is great too, the pics look just like they did on the computer screen and on the full spread pages, they’re blown up a ton but still nice and crisp. I know that has more to do with the resolution of the image file, but still. I was a bit worried about those pages but they turned out great.

has anyone used Black River Imaging? I know a lot of professional photographers go through them for their books, and they look gorgeous. I’m willing to pay a little more, so the prices don’t bother me. ($375-$590 for what we want)

we’re planning on using somehwere like Shutterfly for albums for our parents, but we’re strongly considering BRI for our album and canvasses, depending on our photographer’s prices.

@Pinkmoon:  Thank you! I found some bad reviews but it seems they were from photographers/photo snobs, lol! I think it’s great for what we need. Thanks!!

@TwoStatesBride:  I am looking into BRI, but I find their software is very hard to use. I am going to look into Artisan State tonight

@FoolsintheRain:  I used Artifact Uprising for my engagement pic guest book and I definitely won’t use them for my wedding album.  They use recycled paper, and while it’s a nice idea in theory, the quality of the pictures came out pretty bad.  Almost like it was printed on regular printer paper.  And since it’s recycled paper, there are natural flecks throughout, which can end up in the middle of your picture (which is really annoying).  I can’t remember if there was an option to upgrade the paper since it’s been a few months, but even then, I wouldn’t take a chance since their printer quality seemed a bit shotty in my opinion.  I decided to keep the album since the recycled paper will actually make it easy for guests to sign versus a glossy finish.  Hope this helps!

I used Artisan State for our wedding album as well and LOVE it. I ordered a hard surface cover, 11×14 album with e-surface paper and thick pages. It cost me $204 for thirty pages and shipping. I designed all of my picture layouts in Microsoft Publisher because lining up the boxes through the website was too frustrating. I don’t like having borders throughout the pages so I didn’t want to use their layouts and I’m just more familiar with Publisher, so that’s why I went that route.

When you upload pictures to their website and put one per page, so it spans the full page, it tells you that it is stretched to X% past it’s orignal size. But when I put the picture in publisher and made the page size double the size of the layout, it wouldn’t be over-expanded. I used the original files for both uploading and through publisher, but for some reason they just weren’t big enough when uploaded straight from the disc. It did not ruin the resolution of the photos by putting them into publisher because when you save them as a jpeg, you can adjust the resolution quality.

I do not have pictures of my album, but if you’re still looking for some, I can sure take them and post them! If you want to see how I did my layouts, I can send you the link that has the digital album.

@futuremrsgo:  Thanks for the feedback. Another bee pm’ed me to explain her similar experience with them too (grainy images). I like the natural aspect, as it fits out aesthetic and values, but not willing to compromised on quality for this item.

@Pinkmoon:  Thanks for the feedback. I’m a little nervous about doing my own layout if the formatting is tough because I get really picky about borders, etc. I also agree- I don’t want too many boarders. A link to formatting would be great. I’d have to play around to get the same look too if I went with them.
