We had a very extensive Wedding & Honeymoon road trip of 5 Weeks thru the US South … 1 Week in Myrtle Beach SC – 1 Week enjoying the music scene from Memphis TN to New Orleans LA – 1 Week in Florida (where we married in the Florida Keys) – followed by a week long Caribbean Cruise… before we drove back to Canada.

The trip was beyond awesome !!

— — —

As you are coming from Boston… warm & tropical would say Caribbean to me…

We love the following islands… Bermuda – The Bahamas – Barbados – St Lucia – Antigua – Sint Marteen / Saint Martin – St Thomas, USVI – and Puerto Rico

Not so psyched about vacationing in… Mexico – the Dominican Republic – or Jamaica (cheap destinations for sure… but they all have political / economic situations that make them cheap… but not particularly attractive from a safety point of view… so don’t fit for us in regards to the fact that when we are travelling we want to explore freely on our own, and not worry about our safety to that extent. We just aren’t sit still on an AI sort of people)

Next up for us… on our Short List for Winter 2014 one of the following (or a cruise that takes in more than one)… Turks & Caicos – Cuba – Cayman Islands – the ABC Islands (Aruba – Bonaire – Curacao) – or the British Virgin Islands.

Of Note tho in your situation… if you are planning to Honeymoon right after your Wedding in August… anywhere near the Equator worldwide is going to be SUPER HOT & HUMID… personally, I’d save a trip to the Caribbean for sometime in the Winter.

So with that in mind, I’d probably not be looking for something “tropical” so much as just an interesting Destination be it in North America or Europe.

Hope this helps (some),

We’re currently considering the British Isles. We love to go to relaxing, tropical, beachy places, but we do that every year so we want something different. We’ve never been to Europe together.

We went to Moorea and Bora Bora. Definitely tropical and definitely some place we would probably not have a chance to go any other time since it is so expensive. But since it was for our honeymoon it was okay :).

I also considered Maldives, but I only had a 8 days to work with and the flight is too long from CA to go just for a week.

Well the caribbean is very accessible to most of us living in the states so if you want to go some place you may never have a chance to go to again I would suggest Fiji, Bora Bora, or the Maldives. Flights to these places can be awfully pricey depending on where you live and are flying from so maybe also consider Greece, the French or Italian riviera or possibly Turkey. These aren’t super tropical but they are beachy if thats what you’re looking for. We’re going to Italy & Turkey, but not to the beachy parts…

We had a bit of an all-over honeymoon, it was fun. πŸ™‚ We spent the first few days at the cottage resort on Lake Superior where we had our ceremony, the cottages were really nice — two levels, fireplaces in the dining room, living room and bedroom, patio with a jacuzzi, fire pit right on the shoreline, comfiest bed ever (lol), awesome bathroom with a huge jacuzzi tub (bathrooms are my nitpick when I stay somewhere, I think it goes back to a nasty motel experience when I was in 4th grade, haha), beautiful kitchen, and I could go on but yep.

After that, we drove a little over 80mi to Grand Marais, MN and stayed in a luxury cabin on the shore of Lake Superior and that was by far my favorite of the two places in Minnesota we went to. Everything about it was gorgeous. The cabin itself, the sunsets and sunrises (I LOATHE waking up early but the sunrises were so beautiful I woke up, made coffee and watched them every day we were there with the hubskies.) Grand Marais itself is a fun little spot to visit, we walked around and shopped, got custom made t-shirts (we were on this joke about how dorky we were as kids and we were THOSE dorks in elementary school that wore the shirts with a wolf howling at the moon or horses running on them lmao and we actually found a place where you picked out a t-shirt and they had those horrible designs, I got a screen print of a bust of 3 wolves and a full moon in the background, hubs got some supernerd dragon screenprint and that’s what we got to remember visiting Grand Marais with, though we bought other shirts) and it was so quiet and peaceful. I called my dad while up there and told him I wasn’t coming back. I was only partially kidding. πŸ˜‰ (My parents, my dad really, is who paid for our wedding and honeymoon.) We were there for 7 days, though we poked around Lutsen and also took a little day trip up to Kakabeka Falls in Ontario on a whim (luckily I had been able to talk hubskies into getting a passport card at least earlier in the year and I already have a passport, I didn’t have issues at the border with my name change, I showed my passport, drivers license, and our wedding license showing my full maiden name and birth date and it’s change to my married name… I asked our officiant if I could keep it in case we went up to Canada and then I’d mail it back to her so she could file it with the court once we left Grand Marais and she was cool with it) and that was fun just if not for the adventure, haha.

We’re going back there for our first anniversary, actually. We fell in love with it there.

It was really nice. We both just wanted to relax, I had been frazzled and wound up like a knot in a necklace chain full of stress and anxiety (so bad my doctor doubled my dose of Xanax for the time being) over the wedding and I was snapping at tiny things. I had major fears over my SIL and her behavior which she confirmed but now we all laugh at her on my side and my Mother-In-Law actually printed out a copy from Shutterfly of a family photo with her outfit that was her “f you” to me just for us to sit around with my bottle of Moscato and her Pinot Noir, get drunk and hate on her and deface her in the picture (if you knew my SIL, you’d be joining, I tried to type out how godawful she is and it was a solid block filling up the comment box until I scrolled – and I only used things about her that are mutually noticed and agreed upon by the entire family, not only me) and then we sober up and pretend that we don’t hate her for family peace. She seriously did just a WTF who does that thing to me for the ceremony and then added to it by wearing yoga pants and a shirt that looked like she time traveled to 1998, went to Maurices, got it and came back. I won’t go on about what it was unless someone wants to know.

We’re also big introverts and just relaxing and doing little things on our own time or nothing, too, was perfect.

I’ve been on a lot of cruises and also traveled to a lot of the major vacationing islands, I’ve been to Cancun twice. I’m kind of burnt out on tropical vacations. :

The original plan was to head off to Fiji or Bora Bora but since we decided to start trying for a family right after the wedding we decided to do something simpler for the honeymoon and head to St.Thomas and use Bora Bora/Fiji for our babymoon.

We got married in December, but are waiting until later this year to have our honeymoon. We have way more vacation time this year, so we decided to wait and have an awesome honeymoon. We’re going to the beach for a week in the summer, and then to either North Carolina, Tennessee, or Louisiana this fall πŸ™‚
