I guess I’m one of the USA honeymoon brides!  We are renting a vacation home in Terlingua, Texas, just outside of Big Bend National Park.  We love the mountains and desert!

We are going to Thaliand! We strongly considered going to Australia/New Zealand, but the pricetag didn’t work for us…

We got married in India so we ended up mini-mooning there after the wedding. We did the sites in Delhi and then went up to Uttarakhand, the Himalayan state.

Our “real” honeymoon is up in the air right now. My husband’s good friend from undergrad may be getting married in Amsterdam in August, in which case our second big trip this year would probably be Amsterdam and Paris, though I’m not thrilled at going there at such a busy time of the year. Our real honeymoon WAS supposed to the Inca Trail in Peru but I am cool if my husband wants to go the friend’s wedding-plenty of people made time to come to our wedding abroad and it’s only fair. I’m not sure we can swing the vacation for both, not to mention that we are saving up seriously for a house and on track to purchase one early next year.

Glacier National Park in Montana! We are NP enthusiasts, love road trips and we have always wanted to go. Sooner rather than later too :/ It was even ranked #6 on Forbes’ magazines “Top 10 Endangered Places to Visit Now

…”If current predictions are true, the reason this park is named Glacier National Park could be gone by 2030. More than two-thirds of the original 150 glaciers that existed in 1850 have melted, a real-world testament to the dramatic impact of climate change even though the park service has made steps to reduce energy use and decrease waste…”

(Shared all this on our wedding website and had to with you ladies as well!)

we both want to go to hawaii. however, flights to hawaii are ridiculously expensive. and we’ll be paying for our honeymoon. so, i don’t think we’ll be going there.

i’ve been thinking about a “mini-moon” right after the wedding, and then taking something bigger after we’ve saved up some money.

  • Wedding: December 2012

I was just married on December 1, 2012 and we didn’t get to go on a honeymoon yet but are planning to go on a cruise for maybe our third anniversary. Since it will be our honeymoon we are thinking about celebrating by having a “vow renewal”. I don’t like the term vow renewal because our vows are sacred and were beautiful on the day of our wedding. I was thinking something more along the lines of an on board ceremony to add to our vows by saying something about our marriage and what we have experienced so far. I also think it will be special to dress formal as we did on our wedding day…a wedding dress, etc. since it will be about our wedding. Any thoughts, ideas? There are no rules and if it makes us happy to celebrate any way we choose is all that matters.

TO @sapphire–stars:  I LOVE MONTANA !!  It is certainly called Big Sky Country for good reason !!

Glacier National Park is a real treasure.  You will definitely enjoy it as a Honeymoon Destination.

By The Way, your post above made me log onto the Glacier National Park where I found this info.

* First and foremost, they are saying 2020 not 2030 as you’ve posted, for the date the Glaciers disappear (so just a mere 7 more years)

and secondly,

* Glacier National park was named for the glaciers that carved, sculpted, and formed this landscape millions of years ago. Despite the recession of current glaciers, the park’s name will not change when the glaciers are gone.

All the same… very very sad news.  Makes me want to be sure and make another visit sooner rather than later.

TO @Old Hollywood:  Re – Vow Renewals

I think people call em that because they typically say their Vows over to one another.  Of course there is no hard and fast rule on that… you can make your Celebration as you wish.  I like the idea you have of making it something more than that… an “addition” to your Vows.

Something along the lines of “I pledge my love to you again… as we’ve already come so far…” and then you could somehow incorporate some of the milestones or challenges you’ve faced etc.  And what you want to stress as important aspects in the future (just talking off the top of my head here… and how Mr TTR’s and my own recent Wedding Ceremony the Officiant gave a wee intro on what Marriage is and should be… a growing together, patience, understanding, support of one another, non-judgemental etc) All good things to put into a ceremony be it a Wedding or Vow Renewal, I think.  You can certainly find corresponding readings, music etc to meet whatever your “vision” is

You are right there are No Rules per se, so you can make it however you like… formal / casual, big / intimate… Wedding-like or not.

The one thing I would say, as I am a cruiser, is make a workable plan.  Any sort of Official Ceremony on a ship is going to be EXPENSIVE.  Cruise Lines make a TON of money of this sort of thing.  Mr TTR and I looked at marrying on the ship, and the costs (even for Vow Renewals) were astronomical !!

We also looked at marrying at a Port of Call… but that was pretty risky (would be less so maybe for a VR)… because we had to pay in advance… and with a cruise there is always the possiblity that an Itinerary might get changed… and a port skipped, delayed, etc.  And then we’d have been out of luck & the money.  Which is precisely WHY we got married in Florida BEFORE our Honeymoon Caribbean Cruise… then the cruise was our Honeymoon.

Something to think about.

Anyhow, your idea sounds awesome.  Gotta say there is no other holiday quite so romantic and pampering as a cruise… perfect for a Honeymoon (or a 2nd Honeymoon).  I certainly hope to go on a lot more in the future.

Hope this helps,

To “This Time Round: Thank you for your support and advice! I will certainly look into the cruise idea concerning the cost. We could look into other destinations, then go on the cruise, as you mentioned yours plans about marrying in Florida then Honeymoon on the cruise. Great idea!

We are eloping, and due to a combo of money and time restraints are saving the awesome vacation until next year (when my partner graduates with their masters degree). We are planning to go to Cooperstown, New York. We both love love love the Ommegang Brewery which is there, and I’m so over the moon excited about seeing the Baseball Hall of Fame.

TO @MsLobizon:  Baseball Hall of Fame is awesome.  And Cooperstown a very pretty small town (especially in the summertime)

TIP – Just so you know, they don’t have a lot of accommodations (or affordable ones) … you pretty much have to stay outside of town near one of the Interstates (I-90 to the North, or I-88 to the South)… or the larger city areas around Syracuse, Albany or Binghamton (depending on where you are coming from / heading to)

Now I want to thank you for a TIP

Didn’t know about Ommegang Brewery (Mr TTR is a fan of microbrewed beers) so I’ll add that onto my TO DO LIST for our next visit to Cooperstown.
