I’m trying to get a list together for all of the flowers I will need for my October wedding. I feel like I’m going to end up paying way more than I want to, even though I’m planning to DIY them!
Right now I’m planning on ordering them from my step-dad’s mom. She used to be a florist and still has her business license so she can order them in bulk with her license. I need to get prices from her, but I wanted something to compare them to to make sure that I’m really getting a good deal.
Also, does anyone have any great ideas for fall flowers? I want to go with the cheap (but not really cheap looking) fall flowers. I know I like dahlias, button mums, and cosmos and grasses for filler. Any advise on how many different types I need to have?
Here’s everything that I need flowers for…
- My bouquet
- Three bridesmaids bouquets
- Three mom’s corsages/two grandmother corsages
- Three father boutonnieres/two grandfather boutonnieres
- Flower blooms for two flower girl baskets
- Flowers to fill 40 large blue mason jars (for centerpieces/hanging from shepherds hooks)
I would really appreciate any advise from other DIY flower brides! Thanks in advance!

I ordered my bulk flowers from Sam’s Club. When I did cost-comparison, Sam’s and Costco seemed to be the cheapest and had the best packages for what I was looking for (roses and calla lillies).

I used Fifty Flowers. They had a better selection than the other online flower stores I considered.

I read another post saying that if you want roses and/or calla lilies, order them from flowersandfreshness.com .
I should have been studying for a final exam last night, but instead I did price comparisions for my October wedding. This is what I found (so you don’t have to spend an hour doing the same!):
http://www.flowersandfreshness.com flowers and freshness
* white mini callas 70 for $115 (or mixed)
** (polo) white roses 100 for $105, 50 for $66
flower prices (http://www.fiftyflowers.com)
mini calla lily – 20 for $80, 30 for $100
polo white roses – 25 for $60, 50 for $100
white (ecuadorian)rose 25 for $50, 50 for $80
orange (or pink) dahilas- 30 for $130, 75 for $190
ranunculus 100 for $170, 200 for $230, 300 for $320
jeanne moreau rose 36 for $150, 72 for $190, 144 for $260
http://www.wholeblossoms.com
** craspedia 100 for $127 200 for $190
dahlias 30 for $120 50 for $150 80 for $190
spray garden roses (small) 60 for $170, 70 for $182
* peony rose (jeanne moreau) ” “
plain ol roses 25 for $76, 100 for $130
** ranunculus 200 for $220, 300 for $296
mini callas (12-14″ stem) 80 for $160
mini callas (16-22″) 80 for $216
Right now, I want ranunculus, roses, and craspedia…but I change my mind every other day!

I also checked out Russ Wholesale Flowers – they seemed reasonable also…

I ordered mine from fiftyflowers.com because of their large selection and good reviews. Everything went smoothly with my order and I even had someone call to see if I had any questions once my order arrived.
As for how many flowers to order maybe you could place a small order or even just get some similarly sized flowers from your grocery store to see about how many flowers you need per mason jar. I’d suggest ordering maybe 5-10% extra flowers for the ones that arrive damaged, in case your forget something, or just to have as backup. If you have enough leftover you could make a seperate toss bouquet.
I was able to guess the correct amount of flowers I’d need for my centerpieces, but was a bit surprised how many flowers my bouquet required and it wasn’t even that big.

I ordered from Fiftyflowers.com for my bridal shower, wedding and helped my sister order her flowers off there for her wedding. They have great customer service and follow up when your flowers arrive. Their prices are very good and have a huge selection of different flowers. They’ll also call you if the flowers you want are not in season or stock.

Thanks for all the suggestions ladies! I’m defiantly going to check out fiftyflowers today and see what they have to offer. I’ve thought about getting some to see what the sizes are in “real-life” and how many I’ll need, but I’m worried about things being in season too! Oh, flower stress, how I want this to be over!

I will be ordering my sister’s flowers from Sams Club and theflowerexchange.com. Between the two of them I’ve gotten the best prices. We’re ordereing roses, carnations, hydrangeas and gabera daisys. (No the carnations are not filler flowers! We’ll be putting them in tight bunches and putting them in mason jars for part of the centerpieces.)

I ordered my flowers from sams club. I got 125 white roses and 250 red roses for $275. I haven’t had my wedding yet so I cannot comment on the quality, however I have heard great reviews about them!

I just looked at flowersandfreshness but it looks like their only options are white or multicolored for the callas

theflowerexchange.com has lots of different color options and you can get just one color instead of multi colored.
