Mine came from Jared. We made some changes to make it mine (plat head, Euro shank) and its heavy weight white goldrhodium plated.  We have always been very satisfied with the service there.

What were you hoping to spend? I know you could find asolitaire setting for under 1,000…

Maybe go straight to the source. Are there any custom ring designers in your area? You could have the setting custom made to fit the stone–and get exactly what you want in the process. Just try to cut out the middle man–many big commercial jewelers just send out their custom design work to a ring designer anyway–so going directly to a designer yourself will save you money on the custom work. Since you want a solitaire, that should be easy for them to do…

We priced it out and for what I wanted (platinum pave halo setting), and we discovered that it wasn’t any more than the big jeweler’s–mainly because (at least in my area) a lot of those big name jewelers (Robbins Bros., Jared, etc.) have HUGE mark-ups.

We purchased my diamond and setting from Blue Nile. They are not overpriced and they are so helpful – I was amazed at their Customer Service. And they sell everything separately.

I am looking at a plethora of setting styles before deciding for certain on our custom setting. The following have a lot of settings but I cannot attest to whether they all will sell direct to the customer: MDC Diamonds, Union Diamond, Whiteflash, Gabriel & Co, Stuller, Timeless Designs, and Etsy. I think Union & Whiteflash will sell direct if I recall correctly.

Good luck! Seems a simple/plain solitaire setting oughta be an easy find at a reasonable price.

@MrsC2013:  I don’t believe BN will sell just a setting … Others have gone to them with similar requests and were turned away if they didn’t buy the diamond there as well.

@missebelle:  Moissaniteco does sell the settings separately, you just have to ask. They sold me eng254 for the full price with no head (apx $650). However, then I found out that their settings are made through unique venues in new york. I was able to get UV’s number for the setting and bought the e-ring setting (still no head) and matching wedding band for $450 through getdiamondsdirect. GDD provides appraisal papers for free, which is nice. The set appraises for $1400.

MDC Diamonds will also sell just the setting. You have to call to place your order (if you place it online it will be canceled)

I decided I am not going to use that setting though and I just bought another one through Ann Harrington.
