He proposed at the same resort where we both said I love you to each other. It was a complete surprise to me. I thought we were going away for the weekend just to celebrate my birthday. I came home from work friday to a brithday card saying pack a bag for the weekend, and later that night after dinner, which he perfectly planned, right down to our favorite bottle of wine, vintage bottle of champagne, and even pre-selected coursed menu, our server tooks us outside to enjoy dessert and thats when he got down on one knee. It was the best day ever.

My husband proposed to me on February 15th, 2012 while we were at home. It was just a normal day and I was doing stuff around the house. He stopped me to give me a hug, then whispered in my ear, “would it be cliche of me to propose the day AFTER Valentine’s Day?” Then he got down on one knee and said “will you marry me?” By that point I was all smiles and could barely think of what to say, but of course I said “yes!” We had vaguely talked about marriage a couple of times, but never in depth, so it was a surprise to me.

He proposed while just the 2 of us were sitting around the campfire at our ‘cottage’.  It took me completely by surprise as we were there to celebrate his 30th birthday; never did I think he would turn the attention to me.  He says thats why he did it then, so I wouldn’t see it coming.   We had our family and friends coming the next day for a birthday bbq which turned into and impromptu engagement celebration.

What I love to affectionately call “the Non-Proposal” came while we were on Holiday in Myrtle Beach (a favourite Destination for us) over Easter 2012

We had decided to go for a late afternoon walk on the beach… when we came upon a couple having their Wedding Photos taken by a photographer (just the 2 of them and the Photographer).  I think it was pretty obvious they had eloped.

Mr TTR said… “That looks like fun”

    I said, “Really?, Seriously?”

He said, “Ya you should look into that for our next visit here”

PHOTO – Myrtle Beach late in the day.  Not taken tho the day of our Engagement, lol, as I didn’t have a camera with me… but this is pretty much THE SPOT.

That was it, he was dead serious.  No ring, no down on one knee (not that I would have expected that at our age).  Just “we should do that next time we are here”

We had talked Marriage before… and traded Life Plans.  So he knew it was something I was hoping to do before the end of 2012.  He had agreed, and let me know that when the time was right, he’d ask / make it clear he was ready to move forward / take that step (I thought that meant when he had the ring in hand)

In reality, he was looking for a locale as it turns out.

We always knew as Encores we’d run off somewheres to marry on Vacation (I envisioned somewhere warmer*) but he wanted somewhere that was more US / familiar (and MB certainly was one of those places, having built up lots of great memories over our 6+ dating years)

He needed me to look into what the Legal Requirments were to Marry in MB, but he already had a plan in mind as I soon discovered as we talked some more…

He wanted to marry at Christmas (preferably Xmas Eve), just the 2 of us saying our vows.  No friends, no family.  He wanted to do it barefoot, and on the beach if possible (well at least photos on the beach). And he wanted to follow it up with Christmas Day, and then us jetting off to somewheres even warmer to Honeymoon.

    Sounded good to me.

** In reality, things changed, in a good way.  Fate would have it so we managed to get a whole 5 weeks off from our jobs (vs less than 2 weeks).  So altho we went to MB for Christmas, we were able to go somewhere much warmer to marry… the Florida Keys.  Which sat fine with both of us, cause The Keys truly are one of OUR SPOTS on the planet… having not really ever gone there with anyone else etc.  And it was one of our first vacations together when we were dating, and still one of our best ever.

Not to leave MB out in the cold tho, it is where I picked up several items for our Wedding when we were there over Christmas… including his Wedding Attire, my Wedding Jewellery, and what we fondly call OUR Wedding Ring (# 3 in my set, the one we share / shared at the Wedding Ceremony)

Plus MB will forever be speial to us cause that is where we made it all official, with the sweet Non-Proposal.

My sweet Fiance proposed to me the day before my birthday, he says he wanted me to wake up as a fiancée on my birthday. He took me out on a boat and taught me how to drive it. We rode around watching the sea lions and people paddle boarding. And finally as the sun was setting we got back to dock and he didn’t want to leave the boat. He just kept stalling and thats when I knew it was going to happen. It was just the two us so unfortunately no pictures but definitely something I’ll never forget.

Im loving all these other stories and pictures.

The Fiance proposed to me in the wedding chapel of Eli Roth’s Goretorium during our trip to Las Vegas earlier this year. I knew it was going to happen that night but not how it was going to happen and it was absolutely perfect!

In Paris during an evening diner cruise on the Bateau Mouche, sailing down the Seine with a pianist and violinist playing, champaign and a delicious meal.  We went outside on the top of the boat to see the Eiffel tower illuminated and he got down on one knee and proposed, it may sound cliche in Paris but I wasn’t expecting it as he is often the romantic and we had been on a few trips away and in Paris he already did an amazing thing with the padlock on the bridge the day before which to start with I thought was a ring as he had it in a box and made me pull it out and to start with the top of the padlock was round, it made me giggle and cry as I thought it was so sweet. so I didn’t think he would do anything like propose as I thought he had done something romantic and as he was deploying he didn’t seem like he was ready to propose. He didn’t tell anyone that he was going to propse. The night after we went for a meal in the Eiffel Tower to celebrate I felt very spoilt as we then finished our trip with two days in Disney. It was truly magical!

The picture on the boat was just before he proposed.

In our living room. He wanted to propose at a hockey game, but the lockout made that impossible.

It was a total surprise.  Fiance had our children hold up signs that said “Will you marry me?” at our favorite restaurant where we were having a dinner for extended family that were visiting from out of state –so everyone was there to see it!  I’m a pretty private person but when he proposed it was like no one else was in the room –although you will notice in the pic random men at the bar were taking photos of our proposal!  Pretty funny!

We went to place on Texas A&M’s campus (alma mater for us both) to take pictures. He surprised me under a gazebo and got it on camera. 🙂
