My mom seems to be having a frustrating time with shopping for her MOB dress. She’s picked out a number of dresses that don’t do much for her and seems like she is having a hard time figuring out style and formality. I would love to help her branch out and find new options since it doesn’t seem like she is getting what she wants in her usual department stores.
Mom is often a fan of classic Talbots-like styling and is queen of the sheath cocktail dress but also took a shine to a floor length beaded gown that seemed to take some inspiration from BHLDN and a dress with appliqués that reminded me of Needle and Thread. So now she knows about those. 🙂 Where did your moms and moms in law find the dresses that made them feel beautiful?

My mom, in the dark purple, got her dress from Macy’s.
My Mother-In-Law, in the red, got her’s from a thrift store. It looked great on her, but I could have strangled her for wearing the same color dress as my bridesmaids… I’m still not completely over that 😐.

My mom got her dress at Kohls. They don’t have much selection in stores, but they have a lot online.

My mom wore a montage gown from the same store as my bridal gown. It was beautiful and structured and we had a seamstress through the store.

litebrite249 : nordstrom. she got a full length beaded grey adrianna pappell gown (my mom also loves talbots lol). all the bridesmaids were in mismatched adrianna pappell beaded gowns, so it blended with the style of the wedding party while being a different color (BMs were blush). bonus is that nordstrom does free returns, so no worries about purchasing, trying it out, and then deciding it’s not for her.

litebrite249 : My mom loves fashion. She went to Saks and is getting a custom made Carolina Herrera dress. It’s pricey, but she’s thrilled. Personally, I despise typical MOB dresses. I’m more into a nice evening gown from a nice department store.

My mom got her dress from light in the box. We took a gamble on it and it was stunning!

My mom bought her first dress from Nordstrom, then returned it, then a second dress from Lord and Taylor and also returned it, then a third dress from Overstock that she wound up wearing and loved.

My mom got hers from Nordstrom. My Mother-In-Law had hers made for her because she didn’t like anything she tried from stores. Both looked fabulous.

Both mothers got their dresses made for them at local dress shops.

- Wedding: July 2017 - The Lodge at Little Seneca Creek
My mom got hers from David’s Bridal. She saw one she really liked when my sister was getting her bridesmaid dress, so she bought it. My Future Mother-In-Law got her dress from Kohl’s.

My mom had hers custom made and my Mother-In-Law got hers from nordstroms. Your mom might want to do what my Mother-In-Law did. She shopped online at places like Nordstroms, saks, dillards, Macy’s, lord and Taylor’s etc. They all seemed to have easy hassle free return policies.

My mom got hers from Melanie Lyne. Actually, most of my BM’s moms I invited got their dresses them there! We had a more casual wedding though but they did have a selection of more formal dresses.
