@Ms.Sugarsnap:  Bridal Reflections is an awesome store and is where my mom & bridal party got their gowns from.  They have 3 locations.  I’m not sure how far they are from you but they are worth checking out.

@Ms.Sugarsnap:  try the jersey garden mall, they have a HUGE formal dress shop in there. its in elizabeth, might be 45 from you, but 100% worth it, and its also an indoor outlet mall! hah

@Ms.Sugarsnap:  Agreed!  She’s my mom, not a linebacker! lol

My mom likes the Chadwick’s of Boston catalog, so maybe we’ll try there.

I need to start looking for my mom. She just wants a nice dress. Nothing too fancy!

Have you tried the website newyorkdress.com?  It is a ton of high-end designer dresses and some very “out of the box” MOB dresses… my mother chose a black tulle ballgown with metallic leopard spots on the skirt… (very formal wedding)  and she looked AMAZING!!!!

We went a lot of places even got measurements to look into custom dresses. The day we went in for measurements we decided to shop around for shoes. We went to steinmart and we found a really pretty dress there. They had only 1 size available which happened to be her size. It fit great and she got it. So the measurements weren’t needed afterall lol.

I have no idea where my mom bought her outfit for our wedding.  (I say outfit because it was a skirt suit, not a dress.)  My Mother-In-Law bought a dress that I, uh, strongly disliked, so I managed to take her shopping at Lord & Taylor where we found an awesome Tadashi Shoji dress on sale for 40% off.  I think that might have been my biggest wedding victory.  (Unfortunately, I also disliked my mom’s selection but I didn’t wind up intervening.)

I see you are in New Jersey, I’m in PA.  My mother bought her dress at the Kasper Outlet in Philly.  They have really fancy dresses/suits.  She didn’t want anything long and this was perfect and you can’t beat the prices!

Why not shop online?  A lot of stores have free returns and there will be a much bigger selection.

Both my mom and Future Mother-In-Law got their dresses from Nordstrom, bought online.

Not sure why Penny’s is desperate… my mom got her top and these big billowy pants (gaucho pants maybe?) there. I have literally seen her in a dress about 10 times in my entire life so she was much more comfortable in that, and she looked amazing. So maybe looking outside the traditional “mother of the bride” areas, which usually either look like mom still thinks she’s 25 or like she is 105 and dowdy, you may find something for her.
