I’m a huge fan of New York and Company.  I suck at putting outfits together too.  I usually go in there, find a manequin I like, and buy that outfit.  Their jeans fit great too.  I have a butt and they make it look gooood.

I second ASOS and Ann Taylor. Zara also has some cute things that are pretty inexpensive.

For bras definitely go to department stores and spend a little extra money on a well made bra.  I’m a 32D (size twins Mrs_Amanda!!!) and it’s amazing what a quality bra can do for support. Dillards has some great brands, including Wacoal, and you can order them online.

H&M, Primark, River Island… I am pretty basic, and also I am a chubby girl. These brands have clothes that fit me and my style

@kmarie719  Most stores offer free styling services with an appointment. So pick a store that you like their look, and call ahead. Explain to them that you would like to buy an outfit for specific purpose and can you make an appointment to have some options pulled for you or have an associate help you.  The expectation is that you will purchase after the appoiNtment. It this is a little known service that Most stores offer complimentary to their best customers. I know for a fact all of the high end (couture) stores offer this and even stores like Nordstrom, Ann Taylor, banana republic, etc can do this also. Get the service for free!

Macy’s & Kohl’s you can do research on how to dress your body type online and get some ideas that way they have lots of websites that tell you what you should and shouldnt wear for your frame.

My boss (40) and I are obsessed with American Eagle and we’ve gotten quite a few of the girls on staff down for the cause as well. I steer clear of anything that isnt a basic, but their jeggings are incredible, as are their dress shirts and basic tanks and tees. Its so cheap, too.

For non-basics, I hit Anthropologie, J Crew, and I stalk Gilt like a crazy person.

Luckily, I live near a Century 21 (Best!!!!!) so I have lots of designer pieces and high-end stuff to wear with my jeggings and tees.

For shoes/boots – piperlime! The best and they often do sales.

Never once has anyone ever accused me of looking like a 15 year old girl – if anything, they’re shocked when they find out most of my stuff is from AE!

I love reading all of the feedback! I love American Eagle Jeans the Favorite Boyfriend style. I’ve had mine for over a year and tore a hole in them so I just went back last week to buy a new pair and they have changed the material 🙁 I hate when that happens and now they don’t fit the same

@hikerchick  oh yes! I get a lot of stuff from there. I love their cardigans and some of the dressier tops. Also nice dressy pants that aren’t quite juniors, but aren’t “mom” cut either.

@kmarie719  Ok, I am going crazy with boredom at work hahaha, so I am going to find a few of those things for you! But first: my recommendation is to shop J. Crew’s sales on their website, shop the sale rack in-store at Banana Republic, get other work shirts (blouses!!! not cotton shirts! those will change your look a lot!) from Target, and the occasional cheap outfit or accessory from Forever 21 (although some of their clothes will make you look young, which I know is not what you’re going for). I second Ann Taylor, Kohl’s, and I would add Marshall’s, if that’s in your area. I am a HUGE fan of sales on bluefly.com – that’s where I buy all my jeans, and they do get as low as $40 for designer jeans.

I think you should pick out 2-3 outfits for your engagement session: 1 casual, 1 formal, and 1 of your choice. I LOVE that first inspiration pic you posted, and I think the boots will totally make your outfit if you find a cute pair. The important thing to wear with boots are skinny jeans – any other jeans will get really bunched up.

For outfit #1 that you posted, look for a pair of good skinny jeans. I highly highly highly recommend James Jeans in the Twiggy style – I own 3 pair and am obsessed, I’m slender to average build, my BFF who’s plus-sized also wears them and loves them. There’s a bunch on sale on Bluefly right now, try a pair! And make sure to order a dark wash, it’s much more flattering than lighter washes! @kmarie719

Like I said, the brown leather or suede boots are key and they are soooooo nice to have in your closet all fall and winter! Here are some of my faves from Target:

@kmarie719

@kmarie719 (those are a great match for your inspiration pic!!)

@kmarie719 (my personal fave… I wear riding boots all winter long and get tons and tons of compliments on them, even from men, which is a little strange)

If you’re not a big fan of long slouchy sweaters, try wearing a blazer. Tweed looks great in the fall. Blazers are flattering on all figures and you can find tons on the internet.

Then you need a scarf, and those are also great- my fall/winter wardrobe consists mostly of riding boots, skinny jeans, plain-colored t-shirts (mostly black and white), and scarves. Here are two (cheap!) neutral scarves that match your inspiration, and one that’s pink that would also be cute and give you a pop of color in your pics:

1) @kmarie719

2) @kmarie719

3) @kmarie719

And here’s one more that’s a little pricery but very cute for a fall e-session: @kmarie719

And then you need a cute white t-shirt to wear under the sweater with that first outfit, here’s one I love – @kmarie719

But if you are wearing a scarf and already have a plain yet fitted white t-shirt, that’ll do the trick.

I know the sweaters haven’t worked out, but it is really nice to find a good one that you can layer with. Maybe you need a more fitted sweater – something like this – @kmarie719 (I LOVE the buttons on the sleeves!) or @kmarie719 (good neutral color for fall pics)

OR another casual outfit idea is to wear a striped long-sleeve shirt or sweater with either skinny jeans + boots, or with regular jeans and flats. Here’s a cute one on sale from J. Crew: @kmarie719.

Here are a couple very sophisticated dresses that are on sale that I think would look flattering on a lot of different figures and be appropriate for an e-session:

@kmarie719

And here’s another GORGEOUS dress that will downplay your chest, and the cobalt blue color really pops: @kmarie719

Anyways, I hope that helps! If you like those I’ll look for some options for the other outfits you posted! 🙂

I loveeee Anthropologie, Max Studio, J.Crew, and Dillard’s. In Dillard’s, I loveee Cheslea & Violet, Free People, Gianni Bini, and Antonio Melani. They’re very flattering dresses. Just about all I wear from like March-October is dresses, so that narrows down my store options.

I’m not sure if there is one near you, but there is a store called Nordstrom Rack, where I also do a lot of shopping. It’s basically many of the same clothes as Nordstrom, but for a fraction of the price. Like, True Religion jeans for 60-70% off. Some of the stuff there is kinda whomp whomp, but if you take your time, you can score big!
