I LOVE looking at detailed budgets like this!

My original budget was 8k, upped it to 12k and now our total is going to be just under $16k when it’s all said & done. Although, I really had no idea what things cost when we originally came up with our budget. It just wasn’t doable for our area, but I’m happy with what we are spending and where the money is going!

Location: Belleville, Ontario

Guests: 50-60 people

Ceremony/Reception Rental: $508.50

Officiant: $360.00

Marriage License: $125.00

Wedding Bands: $125.00 (for both!)

Food/Drink/Rentals: $3757.00 (this includes 3 course meal, all rentals, late night buffet, cocktail hour, bottle of wine on each table, some decor)

Wedding Dress: $1313.03 (dress regret – this is for 2 dresses, but I plan on selling the one I’m choosing not to wear)

Sash: $75.90

Veil: $50.00

Garter: $33.99

Jewellery: DIY

Shoes: $36.00

Shawl: $30.00

Hair + Makeup: $250.00

Wedding Cake: $164.25

Cake Topper: $21.39

DJ: $1327.75 (includes music for ceremony, dinner and reception)

Photographer: $4820.00 (major splurge area – this includes 6 hours of shooting, 2nd shooter and wedding album)

Invitations: $200.00

Postage: $40.00

Thank You Cards: $39.99

Groom’s Attire: $250.00

Additional Decor: $687.69 (chalkboard seating chart, chalkboard tables numbers, chalkboard place cards, props, mason jars, DIY project materials, floralytes, etc)

Wedding Party Gifts: $333.93 (includes bridesmaid dresses that I paid for, as well)

Favours: $112.90

Flowers: $1079.00

TOTAL FOR WEDDING: $15,559.32

TOTAL INCLUDING HONEYMOON: $17,559.32 (honeymoon is a minimoon that will cost us $2k)

Some notes:

  • In the beginning I reduced some categories when I learned we wouldn’t use that money and shuffled it elsewhere, before I started to keep an accuarate tally of budgeted and spent
  • Mom made veil (with her headpiece from her wedding)
  • Still haven’t yet preserved (or cleaned, gulp) my dress
  • Not included are the 5 ties & 3 (of 5) groomsmen suits we were expecting to be repaid for but DH felt awkward folling up on – so it’s really almost $1000 more
  • Favors were a wedding gift from a friend
  • Thank you cards & programs I made from invitation materials (too difficult to separate out costs)
  • Borrowed necklace from a friend (Tiffany diamonds).  Intended to borrow matching earrings but DH bought me earrings for a gift.
  • Negotiated free hotel room with venue
  • Could not persuade DH to do dance lessons
  • Bar is part of food costs
  • Food costs would have been higher but we had 96 guests not the 125 anticipated
  • Cake topper was a joke gift
  • Bathroom baskets put together free with materials from my couponing and leftover centerpiece materials lining the baskets (made quilted bases for the flowerpots)

H’s wedding band $350 – I had an old ring that I was never going to wear again, so we turned it into the origianal store and they took the entire value of my old ring off H’s band.  $700 went to $350!  I did not want a wedding band.  My e-ring is very wide, so we used that for the ceremony.

My Attire $701 – that’s for everything I wore: my gown (50% off lace Casablanca at a sample sale), my slip/bra, shoes, jewelry, hair flower

H’s Attire $306 – this is for H’s suit (Kohls Mark Anthony collection), shirt, tie

Wedding Photography $1260 – this is for 3 hours of wedding photography.  Includes all the edited photos.

Ceremony $206 – marriage commissioner in Canada, her travel fee, and marriage license paperwork

Details $550 – we booked an elopement package at a lodge in one of Canada’s national parks.  It included some meals, wedding stuff and lodging, but after I removed the lodging costs, $550 was for my bouquet, H’s boutonniere, three course wedding dinner for four, handmade single tier wedding cake, champagne, two breakfasts, arranging the commissioner, engraved toasting flutes, and someone to plan it all.  The planner took my photos of cakes and bouquets I liked and made it happen.  I think it was a deal!

Hair/MU free – I did it myself.  The lodge is kind of remote so there wasn’t really anyone nearby unless I wnated to pay their $200-300 travel fee on top of fees.  It was fine in the end, but there was some wind and a mini squall, so I’m glad I didn’t pay to get my hair done!

TOTAL $3373

I stole this set up from another bee.  I’m still at the estimate range:

Date: May 23rd, 2014

Location: Connecticut

Guests: 200+ invited, expecting around 175

Ceremony and Reception Venue: $19,500 (all-inclusive cocktail hour, hors d’oeuvres, open bar, dinner, servers, bartenders, linens, set-up/clean-up, gratuities, tax)

Officiant: Free (friend)

Cake: Free (pastry chef friend)

Attire for bride and groom (dress, suit): $1,000

Accessories: $100

Rings: $300 (materials.  A close friend will be making them)

Photography/videography: $2,300

Invitations and stationary: $200

Centerpieces: Free (gift from our mothers)

Misc. Decor: $100

DJ: $1,000

Bouquets: $250

Gifts: $300

Hair and make up: $80

Total Budget: $25,000, we’re expecting to blow past it by about $500 to $1,000.

Honey moon will probably be around $3,000. It’s very scary how it adds up, but fortunately we’ve been saving for years and we are getting some help from our parents which makes it way more doable.
