So the Fiance and I were looking thru Funjet Vacations’ Mexico brochure because that where we decided we would honeymoon.
I was thinking that we would probably immediately settle on Cancun but holy cow! Mexico doesn’t just consist of Cancun.
So where to honeymoon?

Yes, Mexico is beautiful. I am glad you’re not sticking to the traditional Cancun. All the places you listed are nice, but have something different to offer. I haven’t visited every location, so I will tell you about the ones I do know.
Acapulco was popular in the 70’s/80’s. There hasn’t been to many new developments since then. It isn’t as popular anymore.
Cozumel is an island that you could visit for a day or two while in Cancun. I would also recommend spending some time in Playa del Carmen. Also, Riviera Maya is in this general area. Here you could see ruins and pyramids.
Ixtapa and Z is a slower town. It doens’t have a crazy nightlife. It is more quiet and quaint. It has your traditional Mexican wonders: cobbled streets, small homes, friendly people. It is more for relaxation than partying.
Puerto Vallarta is a favorite because I’ve been going since I was 7. There is a new part of Puerto Vallarta where they have the nice resorts and there is an older part where they have older hotels that were a hit in the 90’s. Puerto Vallarta is less expensive that Cancun. It’s smaller than Cancun but the water is always warm and inviting.
Mexico City has a lot of history. There are ancient pyramids nearby. The Catholic Church has a lot of pilgrims that go to see Our Lady of Guadalupe. Think big city like New York: lots of cars, lots of people, over crowded, but lots to see.
I hope this helps. If I was going to Mexico. I would probably do the Riviera Maya.

We’re doing Ixtapa/Zihuatanejo! Fiance lived abroad there for about 6 months and said it was hands down the best area. So I am biased

Wow lucky you! I went to Cabo about 5 years ago, and it was insanely wonderful… we got a condo at the Casa Del Mar resort for the week through http://www.letscabo.com and although their website is a little rinky dinky, we really did get a gorgeous condo for an outstanding price and the service was good. But that said, I don’t think you can make a bad choice!

I would suggest against Acapulco. There is a lot of items in the news about a up and coming drug trade there. Kinda like not going to Mexico City. Some of the other coastal towns are a lot safer.

Check out tripadvisor.com. I am an avid traveler and I refuse to stay anywhere without checking this site fiist. If you type in each of these cities they will give you the top 20 hotels in that city. I say find a resort or hotel you like first, because it can be touch and go in Mexico. What they consider four stars is not a four star in the US.

We are going to Acapulco, but we are going 100% because of the hotel. We want alot of privacy on our honeymoon & Las Brisas resort was excatly what we were looking for! We also booked through funjet and got a great deal on a Jr. Suite & each Jr. Suite has its own PRIVATE pool! They have fresh flowers put in the pool daily & serve your breakfast in a box that slides into your room, so that they don’t disturbe you. We read alot of reviews (on tripadvisor) about the resort & all were really good!
The downside is its not on the ocean side, but you can get to the beach in less then 30mins. We were kinda unsure due to all the stuff in the news, but hey crime happens everywhere and plus we will be spending most of our time laying by our pool 🙂 Here is a pic of the outside of the Jr. Suite. I’m SOOO Excited!!!!

I love love Zihuatanejo! It is very chill and very cheap. It is still undeveloped by all the American chains so it retains a very authentic Mexican experience. Ixtapa is a short drive away, and it is very developed.

We’re going to Playa del Carmen/Riveria Maya area for our honeymoon. We don’t go for another week and a half, but it looks so beautiful and fun. We’re staying at the Adventura Spa Palace.

My sister went to Puerto Vallarta in 2006 for her honeymoon and loved it. We are going to Playa Mujeres which is about a half hour north of Cancun. We are staying at the Excellence.
