theatrejulia:  Philly is a big place. Where exactly does his family live. That will help a lot!

If you’re looking at $33 per person, including tax, tip, and beverages, I  think you might do better looking in Bucks or Montgomery Counties. Maybe his father could offer up some suggestions? The city has a 8% sales tax vs. 6%, in the suburbs, and it goes up to 10%, on the alcohol portion of your bill.  City parking can also be pricey and scarce.

theatrejulia:  Sorry, but we rarely go out to dinner. When we do it’s either more expensive than your budget (my family is going to Wm. Penn Inn for a birthday next week), or nothing to brag about.

serendipityz:  Do you have any recommendations from the menu for the OP that would work for $30 per person?

Estia is a great place for large groups in center city.  Other good options: Positano Coast, Spasso Italian Grill, Brauhaus Schmitz, Frankford Hall, Little Nonnas

They have pastas around $20 and salads around $10, so that combination would work.

theatrejulia:  Philly girl here! I would for sure do a BYOB place without a doubt. Sazon is on Spring Garden and have great Spanish food if you like that. Chops in JFK is awesome super great and they have private rooms which is perfect (NOT BYOB) There are TONS of places in Philly just depends on what type of food and budget you want to have.

theatrejulia:  My parents hosted my brother’s rehearsal dinner at Paddy Whack’s on South street in the city. They gave us use of the second floor and it was super nice, I’d highly recommend!
