I don’t know if Viva Terra has any actual stores, but I love them so much that I figured I’d add it anyway =) I really hope people buy from there though, I like the few things there more than anything else!
I’ve heard of a lot of people having the problems you mentioned with Target, Jaime, but I’ve also known a lot of people that got through fine. The convenience finally convinced me.
I didn’t do BB&B because their quality seems to vary a lot among their products, and I didn’t want to have to do any of my registries in person =P

Bloomingdales! Awesome service and selection!
I refused to go to Macy’s so Bloomingdales was a nice alternative.

Macys, Crate & Barrel & Restoration Hardware (for sentimental reasons– we met there!)

Thanks for the info about Target. I have shopped from their gift registries before, and it is actually nice because they give you the aisle number for each item so you don’t have to guess. I’m just not sure if we want enough stuff from Target that’s not also available at BB&B to make it worth our time – but if their return policy is not good, maybe I can convince mom its not a great idea.
Peihan, you crack me up! I just want the scanning gun. If I start doing things online I will just have another thing to stay up waaaay to late doing on the computer. I do like the option of being able to update the registry online, since I don’t trust our capability to get it right the first time.

i tried to register at Macy’s but hated the website and have heard horror stories about their poor customer service…
and then i found out that bed bath and beyond also has a great selection of fine china, which is what i wanted to register for at macy’s anyway.
so we’re probably registering at BB&B and Pottery Barn.

I’d really love to register at Cost Plus — but it doesn’t look like they have a registry.

Oh, I love Cost Plus. I miss them lots and lots, as there is not one where I live now.
My Lowe’s confirms that they have no scanner gun in the store option. But BB&B has no fabulous overhead lighting. So, there you are. The people at our local store were actually very helpful on the phone, and indicated that if we wanted to go around the store and write down item numbers (so we can look at actual objects instead of pictures) they would be happy to do all the computer entry for us for those items, and then we could add items online as well. They also seem very sad about their lack of scanner gun. They can print out the registry information in the store for people who come in and ask.

I have to agree that the customer service for the Target registry is really bad. I was at a shower last year and the bride got some duplicate items from her registry at Target because they did not update her list. The gift givers were a little embarrassed and their return policy is very stingy.

We are using alternativegiftregistry.org for most of our stuff since we are trying to support local shops and artists as much as possible. We also registered at BBB for some stuff b/c 1) its easy for people and 2) we want to update our mismatched stuff.

Williams and Sonoma, Macy’s, and Home Depot (this makes my fiance happy!)

Target=bad! Not only do people have problems with duplicate items, but they also only allow so many returns AND I have heard that you must exchange the item for another item in the same department. You are also only allowed so many returns, they keep track of that with your driver’s license number. I love Target, but I will not be registering there.

We are registered at:
Crate and Barrel-"fine" china and everyday dinnerware and other misc.
Fortunoff-crystal glasses, vases, etc.
BB&B-random cookware and kitchenware
Pottery Barn-bath stuff
I like random things from everywhere…I couldn’t just pick one place.
I figure if we don’t get it for gifts I still get the completion discount.
So far the customer service at all have been wonderful.

Well, being in Canada and not lucky enough to have BBB, Macy’s, Bloomingdale’s, C&B, Sephora (I know totally not related to registering, but still not lucky enough to have one)…. oh I could go on forever about our lack of options, and its not like I live in small town canada, I live in Vancouver! Anyways, back to the topic at hand we are registering at the Bay (read Canada’s version of Macy’s) and probably a furniture store… we know no one is going to buy us a new desparately needed couch to cuddle on, but are hoping for gift certificates to go towards a large ticket item.
Has anyone else done this? I am a little weary that its takcy registering for gift cards, but I suppose its not all that different than a honeymoon registry.
